300 Blackout

Here is my ex rifle, with 16" Wilson Combat barrel:

Great gun, but I really wanted to go bolt action for load development, so I traded it. Probably not my wisest move.

I reload, but got my 'starter' cases by buying a case of 208gr 300 BLK from

Just bought the .300 blackout. Is it a good gun? Went to the range to shoot it and used Federal AAC blackout ammo and first I shot the first round it got stuck in barrel. Is this normal? Is the stock barrel a good one?

The very first shot? And when you say round, do you mean the bullet, or the case?

Uh, did you bother to clean out the barrel first, before you took it out on the range? (Rather important.) For that matter is it actually a .300 barrel? It should be stamped somewhere on it.

Thats not normal, it could have been a bad round or the barrel could need cleaned more thoroughly.

I fired hand loads the first time in mine and had no problems at all and it just ate the 147 grain M80's. I fired almost 300 rounds the first day and had 0 problems.:D

Yes it those say .300 on barrel. And no I didn't clean it. I never cleaned on any of my other guns and never had problem.

I always clean every weapon before even chambering the very first round. And I also clean all of my weapons after each range visit. Call me paranoid i guess :(

What upper do you have? Are you sure its chambered for .300 Blackout and not .300 Whisper? Also what ammo where you shooting with it when it jammed?

I clean mine to :D.
Whisper is actually a longer case length 1.40 vs blackouts 1.368 but a good point .
It kinda sounds like a bad round with the ammo manufactures pushing to get rounds out the QC may have slipped, it sounds like there was almost no powder in the case and the primer should have enough oomph to lodge a projectile half way up a barrel.Did it sound kinda flat when you shot it? did it eject the case? low or no recoil?

A squib from the factory?, I guess anything is possible. Those guys are burning up the overtime trying to catch up with the demand.

To Bator, I have to ask, was this a new in the box rifle or a used one off a rack in a shop. Or did you buy it off someone. The more info we have, the better to solve your issue.

IMO, if the OP is clear he has a .300 blackout. Then the possibilities are probable that he just found a dud in his batch of bullets. It wouldnt suprise me with the way manufacturers are trying to push ammo out as quick as possible now days.

It was brand new. Never been fired besides from the factory. It was federal .300 AAC blackout 125 grain.

According to s&w .300 blackout and .300 whisper can both be fired out the the rifle.

Thats because s&w have their own labeling. Although theirs is labeled whisper. Yes it is safe to fire both types from their product.

Its a long drawn out process, but yeah s&w did a little in house changing of their own. So its safe to shoot both from s&w products.

Glad to see it shoots for you now. I think we all kinda leaned more toward the ammo being the likely problem. What ammo was it?
