To Re-Load or Not???

Don, the crazy thing is that the ballistic printer costs more than the F1. I got at Walmart online for $85. But I love being able to press a button and have it print out Min/Max/Avg/Extreme Spread/STD and every shot velocity in the string.

The downside of it is that it's an old school impact printer so it takes forever to print off a 20 or 30 shot string. haha

But it works! That is a pretty good tip. I am looking at the Master version.:D I will keep you guys posted about it. I just got my reloading manuals so I am kinda pacing myself.:D

OK. Time to upgrade and get some new "toys".

Give me some ideas on a good Chrony and something I can hook to a lap top. Been thinking about a dedacated lap top just for shooting. I've also been looking into a portable power supply with a solar charger that can handle all this.

GEEEEEeeea!!! Good thing I have a full size Crew Cab and can haul more "stuff" to the range. :D :D :D

One word...MagnetoSpeed

I got an email from Brownells highlighting this while I was at the range last month.
Product Description said:
Rifle10_large.jpg

All shooting chronographs currently marketed to the general public use optical sensors. The MagnetoSpeed uses electromagnetic sensors (patent pending) to detect the presence of the bullet. These sensors are immune to muzzle blast, which allows the sensors to be located near the muzzle. As an added benefit, these sensors are immune to common light problems such as fluorescent lights, low sun, bright sun, etc.

MagnetoSpeeds unique method determines velocity by sensing the difference in time between a slight disturbance in two magnetic fields as the bullet passes by. This is somewhat similar to the way that an electric guitar senses the vibration of its strings to produce amplified tones.
The MagnetoSpeed V1 kit is designed for use with barrels from 1/2 inch up to 1 inch in diameter as well as most muzzle brakes, flash hiders, etc. The MagnetoSpeed V2 ballistic chronograph kit was designed to be used on barrels and suppressors from 1/2 inch all the way up to 2 inches in diameter. In addition to the larger diameter tolerance, the V2 also has one inch more clearance in the blast zone to account for longer muzzle brakes, flash hiders, etc.

It saves the shooting data to a micro SD card in a CSV file. And while the $275 price tag is a little steep, a Shooting Chrony Beta (the cheapest model with non-volatile memory and a serial (that's right, serial ) interface is Amazon.com : Shooting Chrony Beta Chronograph (blue) : Sporting Goods : Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41pLb0fJ13L.@@AMEPARAM@@41pLb0fJ13L for another $95+shipping.

So for an extra $50-60 you get a chronograph that is not light sensitive, does not need to set up and aligned downrange, and saved data to an SD card (welcome to the 21st century :) ).

All this chronograph discussion has got me thinking that while I'm waiting for my new powder to arrive that I should send my Chrony in for an upgrade. It's a two week turn on the procedure so it'll be back just in time. :D

Hey Stav, those cantilever rings you have on the scope look backwards. They typically lean to the front. :) If you're in the market for a new base just pick up a Burris QD PEPR and be done with it. :D

My my my. Thanks. :D There goes my beer fund... :D Good thing I drink Whiskey and well stocked like ammo (by the case). :D At first,I wondered what the weird bayonet was all about. :D I'm liking that a LOT. Simple, easy and doesn't take up a lot of space. IF it holds up,I can live with the (GULP),price. Brownells is good too (BAD when they recognize me by voice :D),it hit my wish list so it won't get lost. That'll be handy when I start messing with the gas block (going to adjustable on one or two)and give me an actual fps so I know the bullet isn't loosing any "HP" scootin' down range. At one time we had a "group" chrono, but it finely died of old age...

...and for $100. more I can have a nifty little case too. :D

Thanks again. Just what I was looking for. No worries, the kids drug me kicking & screaming into the 21st century years ago. My second PC build would dim the lights in town when it was starting up. It sounded like an old Huey getting into pre-flight :D :D :D

Well, my Chrony F1 is now in a box at the post office, on it's way to Amherst NY for an upgrade. So my load testing is on hiatus until it gets back. :(

Maybe this will give me the opportunity to drag my son out to the range Friday morning to shoot the Winchester while I try to get used to shooting the Sport with only an 8x scope. :D

2 new MagPul MOE+ Grips
the Nikon P-series Scope mount

was a good $280 trip....LOL

Now back to your regularly Scheduled Re-Loading Thread

:D

If you're getting into reloading now, then you may have to resign yourself to buying the hardware and then watching it sit there, unused. All of the consumables (bullets, powders and primers) are in short supply.

ya no Kidding:D

Got some .357 Lead... plenty of Brass.... and the Lee Die's and the pro 1000 are still sitting at cabela's.......

LOL

Glad i have plenty of .223 condiments..... for my loading...

Figure im gunna setup an entire station for hand gun loads... keep my Current Lee pro 1000 for .223 only...

makes it easier than swapping everything out....

patience patience patience:p

Yeah. I have a seemingly perpetual back order for small pistol primers at Sinclairs.

I should have been a lot more paranoid earlier this year when I found Wolf SRPs at Wideners. I bought 5K, but in hindsight I should have bought 10K. Then I'd feel more comfortable using them in my 40 S&W.

I like the Nikon rings! Now just a brief word or two about my trip to the newest Cabelas, in Columbus Ohio, today. They did not have any AR15s, 1522's, 22ammo , 9mm, 223, 223 brass, powder, 22 cal bullets and primers. But they did have 5 chronys! At three different prices. All more expensive than Midway's ad. So I did not bite. I read this thread before I went in and I am drooling over that chony that brownells notified you about. It is a lot of money though. I had just about ordered the master one from midway and now I am rethinking it.:)

I bought 2k of Wolf SRP as well. I should have bought 10k! I will fix that at the first time I see them at a decent price. I should have ordered more brass as well. I have 3k but should have bought another 3k.:D

I think the days of $15/1000 Wolf primers is long gone. :(

Midway has "Coming Soon" notices for Tula primers, but those are priced from $26-30/1000...the same as for CCI primers. And while I signed up for notifications, I have yet to respond to one in the past two months that wasn't already sold out five minutes after the email arrived in my inbox.

Sinclairs has a written policy to not back order powder and primers, but they let me do just that. Now whether or not I see any of that order is up for debate, but the order still stands in their system.

I'm trying my best not to develop a hoarder's mentality, but the current state and federal legislation being proposed is so far beyond belief that it's impossible not to.

I didn't see anyone post about a ProChrono Digital Chronograph by Competition Electronics CEI-3800, Been using one for about five years now and use the USB computer Interface to hookup to a laptop. works very well cable is about 25 feet long I just keep all the shooting data in the unit then download it to the laptop when I get home. Here's a link to their site, I found it online for 99.00 and the Interface was 49.00 extra set of diffusers about 8.00.

All of these chronograph makers really need to start writing data to SD cards and forget the cable interfaces.

That's where it pays off being "close" and well known at a few LGS. It can be slow coming in,but does come in.

Makes things easier if you are doing a lot of reloading. I have one dedicated to 5.56/223 and one for 45acp that gets swapped back and forth for 9's. I have plenty of 9's & 45,so a swap isn't all that bad with just those two.

I have a buddy that has two or three Dillons and a few more Rock Chuckers in his reloading room. The Rock Chuckers are for his precision rifle loading and the Dillons for everything else. :D
