629 club

I see you picked up another wild looking PC gun, I like it, I backed out of that magnum hunter, not sure what I'm after now...lol
How do you like your new competitor? Have you shot it much?

I've been trying all week to shoot it, all I have to do is go out back but things keep getting in the way.
I really like it so far I think the weights are going to be a big plus for me once I get them adjusted. I've gotten to the point I need all the help I can get to hold it still.
I do like PC guns, I understand your hesitation about the black one.
I think I'm going to like the sights on the competitors, 629 and 686:

Looking forward to seeing that other one I need

Nice pair,
Those are cool looking sights, I had no idea they put different rear sights on the PC guns, are they all like that? The black gun I had on hold had a regular rear sight(at least I think it did).
I would love to hear your thoughts on this one after you light it up,I'm likeing the looks of this one so please if you can find the time to share a range report with us, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'll definitely let you know, rained yesterday and today, Dr appt tomorrow, will make it soon.

I've only seen these sights on these Competitors. I have several other PC guns none of them have them.

Sounds good, do you mind sharing which PC 44's you have and which one is your favorite. I am definitely going to get one, I thought it was going to be the 7.5" model that has what appears to be rose wood combats and ports at least until I saw you competitor...lol

The competitor and the black mag hunter are the only PC 44s I have. I really like the mag hunter 7-1/2". I haven't been able to give the competitor a good try yet.
I have a 4" Lew Horton 29 and recently sold my 6" 629 and a Redhawk. Either the mag hunter or the competitor is going to be my favorite depending on how I like the comp if I ever get to try it.
This is a long thread I don't remember posting the mag hunter in this thread.

I got a few nice ones here, and I recently added a few more that I haven't taken pics of yet. I'll get the new ones up soon

Why yes you do, that is an impressive photo of some beautiful revolvers.
The one on the bottom, I guess its called the PC 629 is the one I'm thinking hard on, have you shot yours?

Thanks, its the PC 629-6 Comp Hunter, and I've had it to the range only once, for 24 rnds fired. Shooting magnums in this sucker indoors is an experience you won't forget. Even with ear plugs and a headset, the boom is awesome, and the shock wave is like standing on the side of the highway when a semi whizzes past. As far as accuracy, the holes in the target looked decent when I was finished, but all I could see when shooting was a giant orange-yellow fireball. Like we used to say about landing on an aircraft carrier, its a cross between an orgasm and a car crash!

I'm not a big stainless fan so I only have one stainless firearm. Here is serial number N 748677, a nice 6 inch pinned barrel with a recessed cylinder shooter. It gets a little range time but not much else because if I'm packing a .44 Mag I pack my 5 inch pre-29.

Here it is with a little .32 Double Action for scale.

And momma sending one down range with the 629

Well, all beautiful guns, but now here she is, "Dirty Girl" M29 6.5 from 1974. I got her from a moron who literally had it sitting in this condition at the bottom of a very large gun safe. She didn't take well to 8 years of not being maintained or cleanings. Saltwater does awful stuff to guns. Well she got sent to S&W for a complete rework. Timing, lockup, trigger job.....and a new barrel!

After 3 months and $569 she came back. And was returned the NEXT DAY. The action was phenomenal but the finish was the worst example of nickel re-work I have ever seen. The entire finish was as smooth as glass to the touch but the finish had a textured look to it. The surface preparation was poor prior to the final nickel process, there was even a fingerprint IN THE FINISH that looks as if it had been nickeled over!

In the next couple of weeks she should be home AGAIN. I will post more pictures then. Customer relations at S&W has assured me the gun will be QA checked this time.

I always send my guns to Smith but this is the first time they let me down so bad.

I brought the gun to a local gunsmith and he said he has seen this several times in the past year. It wasn't something on the finish it's IN the finish.

Haha.. I like you saying, that's a new one on me.
Was at the LGS and ordered a comp hunter yesterday, I would like to see pics of your others, never realized they made so many different PC 44's, that v comp is a good looking gun, love the unfluted cylinders too, whatever I decide on will be a long wait in this market, I miss the days of going into a shop and looking at a case full of revolvers, it was quite an eye opener yesterday to see just what little they had(think I have more beaters under the loading bench then they had under
glass) thanks for the pics and the range report.

Here is the result of the first return from S&W. Oh, I have a new TT and TH when it gets home.

That is unbelievable, can't imagine them boxing that up and sending it back to you. You must be a very patient man, I would have flipped out on them...lol, please keep use posted on they out come.

I figure this thread "needs" a 629 Backpacker.

Sorry my photography isn't up to par.

Your photo looks great to me.
That's a cool looking gun, what do usually use for loads in it ? Have you shot it much with magnums?I need a 3" gun for the pile but they are few and far between around here. Would like to hear your thoughts on how it handles the different loads.
Thanks in advance.

I was a little dumb founded. The trigger and timing work was great, the finish was soooo bad.
