629 club

My 629 (no dash). Barrel shortened to 2-3/4" and action tuned by Bill Davis in the 1980s. Davis and my father thought that the then newly introduced 629 would be cool in a snubby configuration.

That gun has some interesting history and it looks awesome to boot ,would love to hear how it shoots, it must have a super smooth action, has it been K round butted?

I only have 1 44 mag. a 1978 61/2" that I used to use for concealed carry in a sholder rig I made myself, it has a flat spring to help speed the draw and three speedloader pouches on the opposite side for balance. Works great for carry in the field and for hunting. I've gotten two Boars with it. Love this thread, lots of great 44 eye candy.

I will be looking for my first 629 hopefully no dash when I head to the Denver gun show in May. It was Denver where I ended my search for the model 29-2 6" Blue and just so happened my find included an unfired along with the box and tools. I'm hoping Denver will be good to me this next trip as well. I am expecting to pay somewhere in the 1100.00- 1400.00 range. Is this a good price range to expect to be paying. I want the first model P&R.

I wish you luck in your hunt for the elusive no dash. The prices you mentioned sound about right for a gun show find, but it would take a few more sawbucks for me to part with mine and even then I probably wouldn't sell it. Once again, good luck and keep us posted.

Well if you look in my gallery i do have a few pics there. I have a good feeling about Denver though. I do believe I will find one .Oh so many guns and only so many dollars. I hope my new business adventure will bring me my mad money. It would be nice to have 2000.00- 3000.00 a month just for a gun fund.I wouldn't necessarily have to buy one every month,it would just be nice to always have the option and make a decision based on what i find and not what i can afford at that moment. Do ya guys and gals know what I mean.

I've got a 629 Classic that I've had for years and like very much. I don't have a shot of it by itself, but here it is with one of my 19s cropped from a bigger picture...

But my favorite 629, and probably my favorite revolver of any description, in the one my wife gave me a couple of years back for my 44th birthday... :)

What a great birthday present! Your a lucky man,
What dash is that gun?love the unfluted cylinder, has it made a trip to magnaport?

300 grainers for hunting. Ruger 454 for long range hunting - most accurate revolver I have owned - 335 hardcast, first deer 85 yds, up the tail, stopped under skin right shoulder - min meat damage. After a couple hundred rounds of them to learn to shoot it, it sure made the 629 a lot easier to shoot. I prefer heavy hardcast for all my hunting. I'll give up a little velocity for penetration and minimal meat loss. Big bores don't need explosive expansion - contrary to modern ja@#%& advertising and myths. Learn to shoot accurately and the gun will do it's job.

I just looked at your photos, they look great.
That blued dash two has some wicked nice stocks, I haven't seen to many sets that look as good as they do, would love to see some more pics of different angles. You have some very nice guns so don't be bashful about posting them up right here, if you want to, let the boys see'em.

Ill play.....I have two M629's

My M629 Mountain "Revolver" NIB/unfired waiting for a new owner who can appreciate it...

The M629-4 Mountain "Gun" which I got to use as a backup when hunting wild pigs and to be a "camp gun' when camping/backpacking" (original reason I bought the 629-2 above) this gun has been shot and while a bit punishing, its very accurate and nice and lite for extended carry.

I just bought one that is a 629-3 model. The first rounds I put through it seem to show them striking low and to the right. Guess I will need to shoot at a paper target to find the exact POI for this one. You are right - with 240 gr. jacketed softpoints, it speaks with authority. TD

You're not alone....

I sadly only own one and do not shoot it as much as I should although I love that thing. 3" 629-4.

My only .44 at the moment is a S&W Model 29-5 with the 6.5in full lug barrel. I have my eye on a Model 29-3, I believe, sitting in one of my local gun shops. It'll probably be gone before I can pick it up. With that being said, I can empathize.

Spent some time with my new Redhawk this weekend, like the way it feels with both midrange and magnum loads, it shoots well off the bench, off hand is a different story, it could use a trigger job( big time ).
Does anyone have any tips on a spring kit, or whatever else to do to it? This is my first ruger double action revolver and would like some advice before I start in on it.

Sorry, but that is ugly.....

Bob
Is this the same sight has the competitor because it looks like there's plenty of room to do whatever you need to on this one. By the way, your photos are great, wish I could take pics like that.

Very cool and great looking gun with the shortened barrel. It looks like the extractor rod was shortened too. Any issues extracting spent cases, or it the extractor rod still long enough to clear the cases from cylinder?

I only have one, a classic, 6.5" barrel.
Have it scoped and have shot one deer with it.
