Some of us have to listen to the little lady on the subject........ and most men let them say what goes down.
I did not have any say in the matter but we have two small dogs and only one likes to get up on the bed and stays at our feet.

Tonight is her last time on the bed due to kidney failure and she will see the vet at 8:30am in the morning along with her favorite toy to keep her company.

Sadly Ed there are very few words of comfort at times like this. We put our Gordon Setter Darby down the day after Easter. It is still painful but I find peace knowing that his time had indeed come. We allowed him to keep his dignity and we took away his pain.

All our pets ask of us is to keep them safe and healthy and to make the right (and sometimes tough) decisions on their behalf. In return they unselfishly and wholeheartedly devote their lives to us and provide us with years of unwavering, unconditional love and companionship.

I've always encouraged it. Even when I only had a twin bed, I would invite my golden retriever up until it got uncomfortable. She didn't like the bed and would eventually jump off. She's dead now, but I have her son. He will stay on the bed a lot more. I usually have to call him up but I smile when I'm laying there and feel him jump up haha. I sometimes come home as he stays in my room while I am gone, and he is on the bed by himself.

The three of mine have a system all worked out... It's really amazing; they sometimes hang out all. Together on the bed when its not bed time but when I go to bed they det to their spots pronto. Pretty funny.

I didn't see the thread but saw the reference in another. I'm torn for you too as I recently went through what kept seems happened to you when I lost my best pal some months ago. I'll find the thread and know that you have my empathy and my sympathy. Hang in there.

Its funny WuzzFuzz mentioned "hungover". Every time i have a bad hangover my dog wont leave my side. Normally on Sundays he'll wake me up to take him out for a walk but when i feel like $%&+ (usually from drinking) he'll lay beside me, by my face.....face to face, all day without so much as a peep!

I am just honored that my fur babies allow the wife and I to share their bed, house, patio, yard, SUV, Surburban, Camping trailer and especially for allowing us the use of their firearms. The wife works nights so that makes for a lot more room but when she is off we all still fit in the bed just fine. Thats the wife, me and our 10 fur babies (miniature Dachshunds) Our cats are outside cats. Our babies have first dibs onb the couch recliner and any other place they want. They bring so much happiness and peace and entertainment and companionship they are entitled to it. Right now we have 11 furkids since were long term baby sitting our sons mini dachshund as well.

11 DOXIES?????

I always wanted 8 and train them to pull a sled........

All four of my dogs can be totally engrossed in "The Voice", or the National Geographic channel, or whatever it is they choose to watch, but if I head for the bedroom to retire, they all follow me in there. They all manage to find a spot in the bed, although Tusker will sometimes opt for the floor under the bed.

It's cold here in the winter; we are glad to have them.

Either they live with you, or they allow you to live there too -

I don't have a dog, - - -

There are three dogs here that have a people.

They don't work to support me, don't bark because I'm hungry, or when I want to go walking. :)

I wouldn't have it any other way, cuddlers all! Sure is a comfort on a cold night, I have lots of "heating pads".

Our 3 English Setters (Taser, Radar, Dram) can each clear a 36 inch hurdle (Taser can clear 42 inches) so no keeping them off the bed except verbal commands (which they will comply with) -- we have crates in the bedroom for them with the doors propped open --- they have all been crate-trained so sleeping in a crate is natural for them.

My wife's Newfoundland, Beignet, (Ben for short) weighs 150 lbs and is very agile for a big dog and can pretty much go where he wants -- thankfully, he likes his extra large crate with an Orvis dog pad inside.
We have a huge Caribbean plantation bed that is very sturdy -- he did get up on the bed once via the sitting bench that is at the foot of the bed -- stayed about 10 minutes, then bounded down.

We have a room off our bedroom (workout room) and we have a low single bed there -- once or twice a week I'll sleep on that bed and one of the setters will curl up next to me -- they are sound sleepers and don't hog the bed, so all is good.

She will be waiting for you at the Bridge - it's a hard thing to do...we will be with you as some small comfort. Wish I could be of some direct help, but please know you are helping her in this time of need.
