How PA does it!

I fear that this may spark some resentment and I truly mean no disrespect but in a state like the Keystone state where a concealed weapons license is readily available, why in gods name would someone INSIST on carrying openly? I do understand t is legal,.... yep, I get that. What I do not get is WHY? I tried to discuss this with a fella who exposes this and while I do agree we must never give up that right, if it were me I always opt for concealed because if I were in a place that was being robbed I would not want to be identified as having a firearm. When I explained to the fella that if I were a hardened or desparate armed robber type, if I saw the weapon he would take the first round. If your carrying concealed you can decide when and if you will deploy said weapon. Many times it is far better to be a great witness than risk endangering bystanders. Just my thoughts.

It's a reasonable question. The only reason I open-carry: I'm waiting for ccw license to come in the mail. Until I have that permit, I refuse to be unarmed if I can help it.
Louisiana allows open-carry, and is shall-issue, but the permit process is not as simple as it used to be, and costs a few hundred when all is said and done ($125 for the license, $100-$150 for the class, cost of notary and FBI fingerprints). There's also a ton of people waiting in line. So there are a few small hurdles to cross until one may conceal.
I guess there are probably a few people who will have to be uncomfortable until that license gets here.

That is a responce I can agree with,....... ucomfortable. No. I do see your point ref. being without though. I guese it's the zeolets that I just can't agree with.

Like I said , I don't agree with OC , too many self-proclaimed activists do it for the wrong reasons (I'll leave it at that).

But it is my understanding , in some states , a concealed license/permit means you must keep it concealed and that if you allow your concealed firearm to be spotted , and someone calls the cops about a 'man with a gun' , ya can catch some flack.

In Florida, you can not open carry (with some very limited exceptions for fishing/hunting). You were not allowed to expose your firearm when concealed. However, they passed a law saying that if you expose your firearm by accident (gust of wind, leaning to pick up something, etc...) you can not be prosecuted for it.

I think Texas addressed accidental exposure of a concealed weapon in this legislative session which passed but not sure when it becomes effective as of yet.

Louisiana allows OC in every place you can conceal with a license. Accidentally exposing a concealed firearm is a non-issue as far as the law is concerned.
I don't agree with the political activism associated with OC either, but it is a right in this state and I won't argue with those who wish to exercise that right. Guns are common enough around here that no one seems to really care. Most of the LEO's seem to be knowledgeable about it as well, which I am very thankful for. Some great cops around here.

In Wyoming, any legally qualified gun owner can carry concealed without a permit. It is also perfectly legal to open carry. An occasional glimpse of a concealed weapon makes no difference. The only reason to get a permit in Wyoming is to be legal when visiting states that have reciprocity with our state. It's nice to live in Free America.

Say that next time someone sees your 'concealed' pistol and calls the cops.

I don't agree with it , but ya can carry openly here , and if someone spots your concealed pistol , they get told to mind their own business.

However:
Accidental disclosure is NOT a crime in Texas. http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/InternetForms/Forms/CHL-16.pdf see PC42.01

Carry openly in Philly and the police might just take you down.

We should skip the my states better'n your state, save it for football.

Never was a crime to accidentally disclose. Only brandish, threaten, manner intended to alarm.
.(not to say you are incorrect in the addressing by legislature, that is true, in an attempt to correct a misconception, usually held by non Texans)

I personally doubt my rights are being defended by some guy with an unloaded AR standing in front of an anti gun media.

That's because Philly thinks they can make their own rules and do it as they go!

I don't open carry, I believe in Don't ask, Don't tell ;)

although i don't open carry because of reasons stated, i don't begrudge those that do. it is their choice and i am not about taking peoples choices and freeoms away until they infringe on mine.

Didn't mean for it to come across that way, my apologies.
Louisiana's definitely not better than any other State, in any measurable way (except for food).

I just like it more.

No offense taken! I love the Pelican State. I'd go there every time I got hungry if I could,'cause I definitely agree.:)

We've been pretty fortunate here in PA., but now we have an Anti Gun Attorney General. This ones going to need some watching.
While I don't believe in open carry, except when hunting or other activities of that nature, I don't begrudge anyone who does either, it is there right to do so. I just like to always have the Ace up my sleeve and to be able to pull a rabbit out of my hat when needed! ;)
