M&P 40/9 Conversion

Shot my converted 40 today, Shoots like a dream and I had no issues.

Though I may call see S&W and see what I can have done so my reset is more audible reset. Either that or Apex.

Kind of wish I bought the M&P9 in the first place.

The conversion has nothing to do with the reset but apex should help a little. If you wouldve bought a 9 you wouldn't have the option to shoot 40 now u have the best of both :D

Yeah I know the conversion had nothing to do with it. I was able to get more rounds in, in the same session to notice things I haven't before. More along the lines of rapid fire, being able to get on target faster, and not having to adjust my grip after about 5 rounds of 40. I was able to just focus on lining the sights up and pulling the trigger. A few times I thought it reset and it didn't which felt embarrassing to me.

I have a 2013 Shield and I can really tell the difference between the two triggers (FS is June 2012 or so). I wonder if S&W would give me an upgrade for free :P ? I'd just hate to have to send the whole firearm in.

Nitpicking Aside..

As far as the conversion goes everything seems to lock up great, no extraction issues at all with 9mm magazines, accuracy was good too.
The Recoil in 9mm on the M&P surprised me after shooting 40 for so long, I have to say that my M&P22 kicks about the same/ a little less with 40 Grain bullets (granted the M&P22 is very light.)

I'm glad I went with the factory barrel instead of spending extra money on storm lake. This forum seems to advocate the factory barrel while another M&P forum I frequent act like I've committed blasphemy or an act that will lead to catastrophic failure.

So 135 Rounds so far down the barrel of my 9mm with no malfunctions. I cant wait to get the round count up and report my findings.

I realize that I don't exactly care for 40 S&W anymore, but I suppose its a good option to have. I should pick up a 357 sig barrel if I find one cheap enough too. :S

I have heard that even the newer model full size m&ps have a different trigger now hey give s&w a call can't hurt :D I love shooting the 9 to practice with then having the option to carry .40 or .357 all In one gone and only a 30 sec conversion

Capt Destro, Before selling my M&P40 to my son a couple of days ago I had run well over 9000 rounds of 9mm through it using a factory 9mm barrel (and 9mm mags) with nary a hitch. I sold my M&P to my son only because he wanted it so badly (he shoots it really well offhand) and I had finally aquired a NIB stainless Beretta 96 which also gives the option of swapping in a 9mm barrel to convert it from .40 cal. It currently has about 1000 rounds of 9mm down the pipe also with no problems. Interestingly, on the Beretta there is no need to change mags as they apparantly are interchangable with the exception of the holes which tell you how many rounds are in the mag.

I got the 9mm from midway usa $66 plus shipping around $72 now to find the mag have them on order will see if the get here. I did the apex duty carry kit trigger is better than ever. I have improve my grouping I was missing left and low no matter how easy I tried with stock sear would highly recommend the upgrade.

Converted my 40c to 357 with only the barrel. Smith said the 40 will convert to 357 or 9 with no problems. As said earlier the 357 even uses the same mags!:D

Not sure I will go to the 9 with it though...to many 9's already.

Picked up two 9mm mags from Midway today. You need to be on their notification list and respond immediately upon receiving a notification

I am searching day in day out trying to find some .357 SIG ammo haven't been able to test my new m&p357 :D . I don't know what's up with the ammo manufacturers I know there behind on stuff in general so Im thinking that they are using there resources to pump out the more common 9/40/45. I can't wait to try it out.

Midway is pretty decent as long as u get on there wait list and check your mail regularly. I have had good luck with them and fortunately they aren't like half the losers up pricing all there merchandise.

Ordered my 9mm stock barrel

With all the great feedback I too ordered a 9mm barrel for my 40cal and will put 150-200 rds through it this weekend.
Thanks to all as well. :)

Ordered the 9mm barrel for my .40 pro today! If anybody sees 17rd 9mm magazines for a fair price I have a WTB in the classifieds. For those that have used the .40/357 magazines with 9mm... What have been your FTL rates?

Virtually 100%.
9mm rounds don't stay in place with my 40/357 mags, but they are very well worn with several thousand 40's having gone through each. I've heard that with very careful bending of the lips, you can successfully feed 9's in the 40 mag, but sometimes the last round won't lock the slide back. I don't bother because I already have a pair of 9mm mags (which work perfectly).

So you guys who have tested your conversions extensively with no problems. Would you trust it for carry/HD?

Ive put hundreds of rounds through it without a single problem and I mean literally not one single error now for some that may not be enough but as u see others have also put thousands thru without any errors so 75% of the time it is in 9mm mode ready to go and I have a family and do bet our safety on it without even thinking twice some +p JHP and I feel 100% confident in it

I only plan on using the 9mm barrel for range shooting. I will only carry it with the .40 barrel.

I was thinking of trading for an M&P9, or just buying one and selling the 40 frame.

I strongly believe in the saying "Train as you fight"

While more range time and cheaper ammo has it's benefits, I'd hate to be used to the recoil of one caliber, and use something completely different in a life threatening situation

I found out that I shoot much accurately with the 9mm, but the versatility is nice with the 40/357. That being said I don't think I would miss using 40 S&W.

Currently have my M&P in 9mm mode loaded with some +P Bonded JHPs.

Part Number???

I do not find the Shield 9mm barrel at MidwayUSA's website. Can someone please post the part number? Thanks.

The recoil of the Shield 9mm versus the .40 is so minimum. With the drenaline running during a fire fight, i highly doubt u'll ever notice recoil.

The military trained with paintballs for years. They still do a small bit but mostly now they are training with simmunition. Even with simmunition it's not the same as a real bullet. Therfore in a sense, they dont "train as they fight".

They simply TRAIN TO FIGHT.
