M&P 40/9 Conversion

They are referring to FS 40 and FS 9 in the post

Fortunately for us Full Size, Compact, and Shield are all available for this conversion. They are stock barrels not conversion barrels just ask for the barrel that is needed a 4.25 9mm barrel or a 3.1 9mm barrel for the shield call S&W you may order the part from them or Google will help as well

I'm confused. I can't get multi-quote to work but the 3rd or 4th post on the first page clearly says "Shield." Not disputing you. I'm just trying to find out if it's doable on the Shield and I thought I had seen many threads about the Shields too.

What I did was buy S&W MPC .357Sig then purchased .40C OEM barrel with two extra .40/.357C Mags and 9mm C OEM barrel and two 9mm FS Mags. Old_Sparky This how I keep them straight I bought hobby acrylic paint and painted the barrel lettering and the bottom footplate finger rest lettering in the same color. I use Gold for .357 Sig/Silver for.40/ White for 9mm Set. Hope this can help you. Rowlette

Sorry, I should have stated 357 sig is for FS

will this conversion work trying to go from CORE MP40 to 9mm.... will the 9mm barrel still fit?

Thanks, all. This makes the picture much clearer for me. After I pick up my gun, I will have to get a 9mm barrel and a pair of mags to go with it. A little paint, plus the shipping tubes, a case to hold it all, and I will be good to go.

You can try using the 40 magazine for feeding the 9mm cartridges. My 40 mags feed the 9mm cartridges perfectly. I have read that some have had a problem feeding the last cartridge, but in my case, the 40 mags feed all the 9mm rounds, with no problem. I did purchase a 9mm mag, but found I didn't need it. Those that are having a problem must have slightly different width on the feed lips, than the width on my mags.

If you are going to use the conversion for carry, then I would suggest getting the 9mm mags. You don't want to take any chances for SD. I use my 9mm barrel for practice only and carry as it was designed, 40 S&W.

You know what old sparky my buddy just gave me another one of those tubes if u shorten it the barrels fit perfect no bouncing around and uses minimal space. I could prob send you one once you get your extra barrel.

Where are people getting their stock 9mm barrels? I need one for my .40

I got a 4 1/4" 9mm barrel from Midwayusa last week. The latest production barrels were in stock and priced at $67. I received the the barrel via standard shipping to Washington State 5-days after placing the order online.

Can someone post a pick of the barrel in the tube? I ordered mine from Midway and it came in a plastic bag. I am trying to come up with a good storage solution but need to find a tube for it. Thanks!

Guys, I tried to order a 9MM Shield barrel from S&W today and was refused. Not even offered a waiting list. Was told that it does not fit, had to be S&W fitted, was not for sale to the public and finally just not available. I have purchased over $12,000.00 in Smith & Wesson over the years and bought a M&P 40, Shield 40 and Bodyguard within the past three months. I have been a loyal S&W (USA only) customer for 40 years. This really insults me being lied to by the factory. It is like they think customers are plain stupid and will believe anything. It is quite possible the end of my Smith purchases. If anyone else knows how to get past the wall at S&W for a barrel please let me know.

Does any of the S&W compact series barrels fit the shield?

This has been occuring for quite some now time with guys trying to order the 9mm and .30 barrels for the conversion of the Shield. Most people now days have someone tell them that they need to send the gun in so s&w can assure proper fitment of the replacement barrel. Its obvious they have caught on to what we are doing and are trying to control it a bit more.

I had a question, will 40 S&W magazines fit in a 9mm frame?

I was thinking of getting an M&P9 Full size sometime this summer.

Extra magazines would be nice, the 2013 trigger is reworked I hear, and there wouldn't be any looseness of the 9mm barrel. (M&P40 with 9mm factory functions fine, guess I am nit picking)
+Extra Magazines
+Reworked Factory Trigger
+No looseness with the 9mm Barrel.

I don't shoot 40 S&W much, but might be interested in 357 Sig as well and really don't want to stock 40S&W.

So i was either going to sell my 40, Or keep the slide assembly and barrel while selling the M&P40 frame/lower.

Really I just don't feel like having more than one full size M&P if I barely shoot one at all. If the 9 frame fits 40S&W Slides and magazines It would be golden. I'd take the newer frame because of the better trigger pull/reset. I don't feel comfortable installing apex myself currently.

I mean Sig has started selling slides separately to convert calibers, I wouldn't mind having a 40/357 slide for an even faster caliber swap. Smith should really get in on that part of the market...

I guess in the end, it would be cheaper than buying a slide assembly, apex duty/carry kit/2 9mm magazines from midway. If I scored the "range kit" that would be an extra magazine, mag loader/holder/holster which is IDPA legal.

If all this worked out what do you think a fair price would be for the M&P frame?

Would $225 + shipping to an FFL be reasonable? Im not sure what the demand would be though. I might be better off just selling the 40 S&W as is and grabbing a 9mm.

It sucks that I am only a CSO, and Im not sure if my Chief would sign off on a LEO discount for me ..
