Browning Hi-Power as a carry gun

Well, it won't win any prizes for good looks but it fires every time and has probably served many officers before it reached me. This will almost certainly be it's last round of duty before an honorable retirement.

Extremely interesting :D, thanks for posting!

I don't suppose you could post a pic of your High Power could you?

Or at least:

Is it FN, Browning, FEG or Kareen?

If FN/Browning, is it an Olde School Classic, a MkII, a MkIII...or hybrid?

How do you carry it, Condition 1 or Condition 3?

What holster do you currently use?

Sorry for the barrage of questions, but it's good to hear of Police Officers still using this classsic...but practical pistol for duty purposes.

When last working in Israel ('11), it seemed the switch to the IMI 941 was pretty universal, except for...well, except for those using the G17 :D.

Thanks in advance and Be Safe Out There!

Thanks Sgt. :D

Appreciate the pic of your FN BHP; externally it exhibits classic '73 Pattern features (bump 'n hump sights/hog-nose bushing/spur hammer/single side but replacement-contract safety) and wears Hogue grips. Considering the Israeli propensity for combining/modifying features of different models, internally you might even find MkII/MkIII features such as a straight non-humped feedramp and/or even a cast frame ...

If you're interested, you can determine how new ;):D your duty pistol is by SN. Though possible it could be a "C" Series, I'd imagine the SN would consist of the 245 product code followed by the 2 letter date code and then the actual numerical sequential SN. Examples; 75CXXXXX would be 1975 while 245PVXXXXX would be 1985 :D...

Be safe out there...

This one is 1985. Thanks for the tip

I don't want to start a firestorm today but since I have a few Browning Hi-Power pistols I have given some thought of making one an alternate carry gun. Anyone else use one as a carry gun? My plan is to use 124grn or 147 grn ammo as a defense round.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
I've tried carrying my High Powers a couple of times. Not bad for IWB, and they fit in any holster made for a 1911, so you don't need to buy a special holster for it. They weight about as much as a Lightweight Commander.

I use a Milt Sparks Summer Special IWB for Hi-Power carry. It's comfortable for all day carry, thanks in part to the slim profile of the pistol. The holster also fits the 1911 pistols as well.

OK, I'm running out of BHP pictures...try this. MK II ('85). It wears a set of British-issue stocks I got from my time in the Para Reg't.

You obviously need to get out there and find some more of your signature really Kool BHPs Bob ;):D.

I'm just running low on pictures ;).

Beautiful...THAT is redundant when it comes to Yost BHPs, pair of pistols Chuck...

The Super Vel ammo is a nice touch as well Chuck :D:D:D

Years ago when I acquired my BHP it came with adjustable sights. I had to laugh at the sight as they looked to be made from a beer can. Sent it to C&S and had Bill do his magic and also install a S&W rear sight. It has been a love affair ever since

Good to see yet another BHP guy here, particularly one knowledgeable enough to have Bill do their BHP...especially with S&W sights :D

Speaking of love affairs, I'd kill to move to Wyoming ;), unfortunately the Wife is not yet to be convinced :(:o...
