I am shocked, disgusted, and sick to my stomach...

Marlin was probably looking ahead to when the assault weapons bill passed.

Even today, that may be the only thing someone in CT or MA may be able to buy to defend themselves.

Maybe somebody at Mossberg heard a lever gun referred to as an "Appalachian Assault Rifle" and said, "Hey, there's a million-dollar idea...."

I almost expressed my desire to ban these. But, banning ugly guns won't work; people with no taste will find some way to get them.

I have a Mossberg Model 464, but it aint one of those ugly things. Its got wood looks normal and is a decent weapon.

Most of you know me as a traditionalist. I like guns with class; guns that reflect workmanship and style. Guns that are products of their time in history, and which have fulfilled their reasons for being.

Imagine my dismay upon encountering this travesty. It truly turned my stomach. Apparently designed to kill zombies; did anyone tell Mossberg that zombies do NOT exist, and anything designed to combat them is really stupid?

This is neither fish nor fowl - well, maybe it's foul. It's ugly. It would offend anyone with an ounce of a sense of esthetics. It's not a Winchester 94. It's not an M4. It's....Frankengun.

Excuse me while I sign off and try to control my gag reflex. What in the name of all that's holy was Mossberg thinking? I hear John Moses Browning turning in his grave. John Wayne is looking down from heaven and shaking his fist, yelling "I won't be insulted!" I mean, good grief.

I'm curious - does this turn your stomach equally? It also is a Frankengun mix of modern and traditional:

Turnbull TAR-40 .308 Rifle

Its the future of deer hunting....An 6-20x56 Night Force scope, pop up battle sights, 500 lumen combat light (LED), and a laser would make for an excellent weapon for these battle hardened whitetails we have running around PA....

Don't get me started on my idea of a good duck gun.....

I agree this is as "ugly as sin."

However, I would buy one for a truck gun.
I like the adjustable stock, and I wouldn't feel bad about it getting dirty or scratched.

Wood stocks and fine blue barrels should not be subjected to banging around in the back seat or the floor of a truck as we bounce around 4x4 trails in the mountains.

Now, if they would make it in .44mag or .357mag it would be very useful to me.

I agree! That's about the FUGLIEST gun I have ever seen. I'd like to know how many of those they actually have sold. I can't even imagine someone in their Company actually suggesting that they make something like that. I guess they are bored there at Mossberg!

They make those stocks to retrofit on old lever actions. In other words, you could take a classic Winchester or Marlin and set it up the same way.

If having that Mossberg monstrosity on the market saves even one old classic from that treatment, then I'd say it's served a valid purpose!

It has a stock adjustable to anyone in the house. The rails can have covers over them where needed and a good light mounted. It's a reliable platform in a good center fire cartridge. The flash suppressor can be removed and a sound supressor could be added. The zombie sales pitch brings in new shooters that can seek guidance and knowledge from the previous generations if we aren't busy alienating them from the sport and hobby. I agree it's ugly but every new generation has something ugly they embrace. It seems to be the nature of things. As previously stated, how many here are Glock or similar polymer frame owners? I've heard similar things said about aluminum frame guns and the various caliber wars. Anything we could be doing to bring in new blood right now and show gun owners aren't a bunch of hate mongering nut jobs would be a positive.

It reminds me of a prosthetic device like people who have lost limbs wear; an artificial leg or arm. Its ugly and it does the job, kind of, but it can never take the place of the real thing made of flesh and blood or ... beautifully crafted wood and steel. I suppose that I could live with it until I could get something better but it sure wouldn't be much of a life.
