I'm looking at possibly my next acquisition, would like to get a little info. 66 ND 2 1/2" Ser # 6K63XXX

Would like year of manufacture. I'm thinking early 71?

Also, if possible, value. Of course P&R, RB wearing Packs, few scratches. Bore shiny, good rifling, locks up tight. No box or papers.

Would the Packs have shipped on this gun or with service or combat wood?

Thanks in advance for the answers.

EDITED to add pictures. I at first thought it had red ramp front sights, they were blacked out and I assumed. After getting it home, I was able to remove the black, looked like possibly marker. Found it to be a stainless front. After a good scrubbing and a little polishing and adding the magnas I've ordered it will be good to go.

Trashy

Likely a 1975 ship date, and $550-600 in the current market. Probably had RB Magna stocks from the factory.

That's a pretty low estimate for right now. Even without the right grips. How do you quantify that?

A pic would be nice.

Thanks Murphydog, What is the deal with the "M" stamp? I remember seeing something a while ago about it. I really don't believe it had a M stamp on the yoke. Could this be a deal breaker and what what does the M signify? I googled, but could not get the info.

I constantly watch S & W revolver auction listings for sales prices. People can 'ask' high prices but that is my impression for what they are actually bringing. Member 5Wire tracks data on several guns and has Excel graphs; perhaps he will chime in if he keeps data on 2.5" model 66s. Always happy to admit I'm wrong :) .

The M applies to 580-680 series L frame revolvers up to the -2, not to the model 66, so no worries here.

You are new and I welcome you!

From what I have seen lately I agree that $550-600 is average. Thing is many are being put out with a price up to $1000 and seem to sell. For me it comes down to how nice it is and what it comes with. I wouldn't pay much over $600 without correct grips but may pay $800 for all matching with box etc. I tend to overspend on the snubbie K frames

I need to bookmark your handle for future reference. :)

66 no dash

I also believe this is a bit on the low side.
I would say a four inch -2 , -3 would bring $550.00 to $600.
What I see is that a pinned and recessed 2.5" will bring over $700.00
on the auctions.
Which I think is very fair, considering it is exact same price one would pay for a new 2.5" 686 which is about all one would have to compare to.
Of course we could all find examples higher or lower.
Here is Book "Historic pricing" Notice recent spike, that is what I am basing my thoughts on, also the p&r factor and that very few Model 66's came that way.

Year 100% 98% 95% 90% 80% 70% 60%
2013 $675 $595 $500 $460 $375 $300 $235
2012 $475 $350 $230 $180 $145 $125 $105
2011 $475 $350 $230 $180 $145 $125 $105
2010 $475 $350 $230 $180 $145 $125 $105

Thanks for all the help fellow members. Another question, as I stated it's a 66 ND, P & R but has black rear site and red ramp front site. I thought the ND's had stainless rear sites. Was there a change during this time or could it be after market sites?

I believe all snubbies were blued sights. I had the same concern when I picked mine up years ago, but folks here suggested it was legit.

If I remember correctly Model 66 no dash 2.5" were introduced a year or so after the initial launch of the Model 66, and the 6" guns were introduced a couple years after that, possibly not until the -1 revision. I don't recall having seen any 66 2.5" with the stainless rear sites and no red ramp, but that is not to say they don't exist. From my experience the 6" model 66 is the most rare. At least around here, you don't see no dash 2.5" very often, and when you do, they command a premium. $600+, usually $700+. Like I said, you are seeing 20 year old 6" 686's going for north of $700 here, saw 2 of them sell this weekend at a gun show for $750. I don't think I have seen any go for $500 here in the for sale forum since I have been here, which is admittedly not very long.

If you truly live in a place where you can pick up guns so "cheap" (at today's silly prices), that is excellent for you, but I don't think it's reflective of some sort of national average.

It's mine!! 66 ND 2 1/2" P&R and I love it. It will go nice with it's brothers, 66-1 4" & 66-4 4" and also "brother from another mother" 19 - 4 4".

Now I gotta decide how to fill the gaps in the dash #'s, 6", 3" or 2 1/2 " , another 4"?? Decisions, decisions.

While thats going on I'm also attempting to close a deal on a pre 10 to go with my 1944 Victory and 10 - 7.

I need lots of help and support in these trying times.

The FIRST thing you need to do is admit you have a problem. ;) After that it's all down hill, and fun.:D

I realize and admit I have a problem, I just haven;t figured out how to stop it. My sweet wife admitted it before me, she'll probably be the solution.
