Since I live in MA, and not that far from either Foxboro or North Attleboro, I've been watching this story unfold since the beginning.
The more that comes out about his background, the worse he looks. Based on talent, he should have been a first round draft pick. He dropped to the fourth round because of a history of trouble while he was in school in FL.
It also appears he was affiliated with a gang in his home town of Bristol, CT.
Now that he's been implicated in the triple shooting/double homicide from last year, the police have started to dig up more.
In addition to his $1 Million + dollar home, he rented a condo a town or two over from his house. There the police found more ammunition and another couple of cars. One of which matches the description of the one seen at the July 2012 homicides.
That thought now is that the guy that he murdered a couple of weeks ago might have been talking about the previous murders and so Hernandez decided he had to go.
Why he decided to drive him all the way down to an area near his home to kill the guy, I can't understand.
Given the neighborhood that the deceased lived in (which I know very, very well) they could have shot him a street or two over and left the body on the street. In fact, last week there was a triple homicide two streets over from where the deceased lived. It was just plain dumb to drive him all the way down to a fairly affluent, mostly white, suburban town.
The Patriots cut Hernandez 15 minutes after he was arrested. Most people up here assume that they had some sort of advanced knowledge of what was going to happen. Considering that they have a lot of retired police and even FBI agents on their security staff, it wouldn't surprise me. As they were releasing the press release about that, they were removing all Hernandez related merchandise from their Pro Shop. No doubt they did the same with the on line store.
Today, they announced that on July 6&7, anyone who owns a Hernandez jersey can come in and trade it in.
At the arraignment on Wednesday, the Assistant DA laid out a very specific case against Hernandez. And that was only enough to get him held without bail. I'm sure they have a lot more and will probably get at least one of the other two accomplices to testify against him.
He had a $40 Million contract and threw it all away.
Even if he is acquitted, I don't think any team will ever pick him up.
