Has anyone been following the Aaron Hernandez story this week? The guy is 23, has a fiance and infant daughter, signed a $40 million contract with the NE Patriots, was a premier player ... and is now charged with murder (and being investigated for two other murders) for allegedly shooting (or orchestrating the shooting of) a friend who supposedly disrespected him by talking to people he didn't like at a club. Has the world gone mad? This guy is either the dumbest man on the planet, or has an evil streak running through him that no one knew about. Even the judge who denied bail asserted that the circumstantial nature of the case is so strong that risk of flight is possible.

With every bit of additional information, I'm left shaking my head.

Our pathetic worship of pro and college athletes, and our willingness to tolerate their faults as long as they win for us, are what sets the stage for this behavior. There are lots of them who do this or things almost as bad, and we are ok with it as long as our favorite team wins. Bill S

Heard that he was in a gang... imagine that...

One of the news stories I read the titles too-said that he was for lack of the actual words--said that he was kind of associated with a gang. Your never "kind of" anything when dealing with gangs. Your either in-or not in one.

I've already herd speculation that it was 'Roid Rage.

And don't forget he might have head injuries too.

That from the media.

From me, Punk, Thug and Idiot come to mind. I rest my case.

DG ... +1 on punk, thug, and idiot. The media speculators are ridiculous. The majority of the time, roid rage results in spontaneous aggression, not calculated and premeditated murder. This Hernandez character appears to be just a cold blooded hoodlum. LEO is now looking into his possible affiliation with a Blood set in Bristol, CT.

$40 million and one's freedom is a lot to throw away for being "disrespected" ...

Just a plain mean and evil thug.
It will be interesting to see how much money he will end up spending on lawyers.

Saw where he was arrested for murder but hadn't heard why.
If it is true, because the guy disrespected him by talking to
people in a club he didn't like???? Just hard to fanthom a
mind that would think like that. He had everything going for
him and threw it away on a stupid thing like that???? What
the heck is going on with him????

He just watched a guy who beat a murder rap win the Super Bowl this past February.
Maybe he figured that he'd get away with it too.

With no racial intent, I always say; "you can take the boy out of the 'hood but, you can't take the 'hood out of the boy".

My nephew did his undergrad and grad at UF in the Tebow/Herandez era (he's a Navy JAG now). I called him this weekend to discuss both stories. Although he didn't know either beyond a head nod in passing, it was common knowledge on campus that Tebow was sociable and approachable, while no one could (or wanted to) talk to Hernandez!

Exactly, and its not like he was shunned for that week either, just heard how great he was... Exactly whats wrong and make these people think they can do anything...

Since I live in MA, and not that far from either Foxboro or North Attleboro, I've been watching this story unfold since the beginning.

The more that comes out about his background, the worse he looks. Based on talent, he should have been a first round draft pick. He dropped to the fourth round because of a history of trouble while he was in school in FL.

It also appears he was affiliated with a gang in his home town of Bristol, CT.

Now that he's been implicated in the triple shooting/double homicide from last year, the police have started to dig up more.

In addition to his $1 Million + dollar home, he rented a condo a town or two over from his house. There the police found more ammunition and another couple of cars. One of which matches the description of the one seen at the July 2012 homicides.

That thought now is that the guy that he murdered a couple of weeks ago might have been talking about the previous murders and so Hernandez decided he had to go.

Why he decided to drive him all the way down to an area near his home to kill the guy, I can't understand.

Given the neighborhood that the deceased lived in (which I know very, very well) they could have shot him a street or two over and left the body on the street. In fact, last week there was a triple homicide two streets over from where the deceased lived. It was just plain dumb to drive him all the way down to a fairly affluent, mostly white, suburban town.

The Patriots cut Hernandez 15 minutes after he was arrested. Most people up here assume that they had some sort of advanced knowledge of what was going to happen. Considering that they have a lot of retired police and even FBI agents on their security staff, it wouldn't surprise me. As they were releasing the press release about that, they were removing all Hernandez related merchandise from their Pro Shop. No doubt they did the same with the on line store.

Today, they announced that on July 6&7, anyone who owns a Hernandez jersey can come in and trade it in.

At the arraignment on Wednesday, the Assistant DA laid out a very specific case against Hernandez. And that was only enough to get him held without bail. I'm sure they have a lot more and will probably get at least one of the other two accomplices to testify against him.

He had a $40 Million contract and threw it all away.

Even if he is acquitted, I don't think any team will ever pick him up.
