I have a shield 40 with the gritty trigger on take up. I came to the conclusion it is the striker safety, or the striker safety bore is rough. Has anyone removed the rear sight successfully, with a sight pusher? and if so which one? I am not beating it out with a punch. Or, should I just send it back to S&W, and hope for the best? I know they go on vacation for 2 weeks on the 29th.
Why do they make the rear sight so tight??, and why are there so many complaints about the gritty trigger?? You would think they would adress these issues.
BTW I have already shot about 400 rounds through it, and it has not smoothed out at all.

Here is my "Do-It Yourself Backwoods Version" of an M&P trigger job. Check it out. You might find something useful. Everything on the SHield is the same as a Full Size ... just smaller. The video will give you the info you need, and it's free!

You are not removing the rear sight on a Shield with that little screw driver! That is my main problem right now. Someone must have used a sight pusher to remove the rear sight on a shield?:(

As described in the videos ...

You have to remove them from Left to Right. Sight pushers are designed to REPLACE sights, and not push them off from factory installation. If you aren't going from Left to Right you are spitting in the wind.

Have you ever removed a Shield sight? I dont think you have. It is almost permanantly mounted in place. I have seen people cutting them off to get them off. Yes I was going the right direction:rolleyes: I cant believe no one has any suggestions for a sight pusher that will work? I gues everyone just beats them off with a punch? I am not doing that.I broke my MGW sight pusher, on the rear sight of the Shield.
I just want to get access to thye damn striker safety bore so I can smooth it out!

It probably has red loctite under the sight. You could try using a heat gun to break the loctite and then you should be able to drive it out.

Sorry, I don't have a sight pusher and don't have a suggestion for one, but I had a CZ that took an act of God to get the rear sight out so I understand. I suggest heating it up, locking it down in a vise, using a small piece of leather as a buffer between the gun and the punch, and then just taking a brass punch and hammer to it.

If you can live without the gun for a couple weeks I think you should contact S&W. They will probably do a trigger job on it for you free of charge.

1. If you do a search here on the forum you will find many articles about and refrences to removal and replacement of both the rear and front sights
2 you will also find several refrences to sight pushers one being a guy from El cajon Ca that sells one that works for $59.00.
3The sight pusher is designed to remove the rear or front sight and to push the new sight. I have the tool and have replaced a half dozen sights for myself and friends and the tool works very well!

I use a B&J Machine P-500. i've had it for over 10 years and have done plenty of sights with it.
