I like to shoot my M&P 9L for IDPA and USPSA matches, but extra mags are completely unavailable. I am afraid to even drop my mags at slide lock for fear of losing them (I didn't say that fear is rational, BTW). It seems as if S&W is uninterested in addressing this problem...I've not seen any attempt to officially acknowledge the shortage. As such, I cannot currently recommend these guns to new buyers; I would wait until mag production catches up. Once it does, I will wholeheartedly recommend them.

Ummm.... ok... How do you lose your mags at a match? I mean I've never even lost a moonclip at a match! I pick them up at the end of each COF.

How do you know they are not already running at capacity? And why is it S&W's fault people buy every mag in sight?

By this logic I cannot recommend any AR-15 or AR-10 type rifle, M1A, AK of any type, SKS, FAL, and so on and so on during panics. Just cause some Pmags are trickling back in at pre-panic prices doesn't mean everyone else is caught up.

I'll alert the media!:cool::D

Many other mags were unavailable during the panic, but here in suburban Chicago at least, I can get any of the other mags you mentioned (except the SKS, which uses a fixed magazine) without too much difficulty. No, I've never lost a magazine, but I've shot crowded matches where many of the competitors use M&Ps, so who knows? They can also break. My point was, it seems as though this particular magazine has an availability issue which is unique among manufacturers (in my area at least). When a number of third-party suppliers remove their listings altogether for this magazine, and I hear that people have been told that it will be "unavailable-period", I consider that a problem. I've heard from other companies that they know there's a shortage and they're killing themselves to ramp up supply, but nothing from S&W. I like their products, but they need to be available.

I don't mean to hate, I just need a couple more to comfortably shoot USPSA and I can't find them. Frustrating...

On this forum, unless you want to discuss the 5/10,000 if an inch bubble hump mark on some obscure revolver that only well off grumpy old me own, well you won't be entertained.

Do we even know if S&W makes their own mags, or like many other mfr's, does Mec-Gar make their mags? GARY

MEC GAR makes the S&W M&P magazines, as well as several other OEM brands.

I have a different opinion of the mag shortage. If none are available doesn't that mean people like their M&Ps enough to scrounge and scrape to find mags anywhere they can. Don't know about others but I can find Glock mags in local stores and online.

Do what I did. Buy two!

I did buy 4 more OEM on GunBroker for $75 a pop. Tried ProMags too, but one came apart during a competition.

They are now just Barney loaders.

We feel your pain bro, but give it some time, I'm confident by the end of the year mags will be able to be had at sane prices ($35 or less).

Really? "For fear of losing them"? They grow legs and run off?

Dunno how you arrived at your conclusion that you haven't seen any interest on the company's part to get more magazines. I've listened to a number of their folks express a wish that they could get more of them, and right now. I remember when the 40c was new, and not only were the magazines back-ordered (due to gun sales), but they couldn't get enough mag springs from their vendor to be able to sell separate spare springs.

It's hardly S&W's fault that MecGar can't keep up with the huge demand created not only by the popularity of the M&P pistols series, but the artificially-induced "run" on magazines, in general.

Back when S&W was offering their magazine incentive for sales of the early M&P's, they were almost immediately faced with a situation where they were back-ordered several ten's of thousands of magazines.

The steady demand for the M&P pistols hasn't really let anyone catch up, yet. Not surprised the mag vendor is still trying to catch up.

We in Colorado are doing our part to help the M&P 9mm mag shortage. We, as a state, are committed to not buying any 17 round mags. This should ease the shortage to a point.

:)
