I cannot fathom why S&W has not made a M&P pistol in a Glock 19 size..I would think it would sell..any other words or wisdom on this from you Smith experts?

I agree. The only S&Ws i like are full size. Their combination of grip thickness and shortness doesnt work right with how short the c models are. They remind me more of Glocks sub compacts, which i also dont like for the same reasons.

I think the G19 is the perfect size for daily conceal carry

...I prefer Smith's version of small, medium & large better than Glock's version of small, medium and large.

Help me out. What are Smith's small, medium and large? I thought M&Ps came in two sizes? Are you considering the Shield their small size offering?

The full size M&Ps are closest in size to a G23, right? (I know my Glock #s for .40 better than 9mm)

My SW99 full size is very close to a G23, and my compact SW990L is within millimeters all the way around compared to a G27. I haven't handled them side by side with their M&P cousins. I think the M&Ps may be slightly larger than my 99's.

The full sized M&P 9mm/.40S&W is very close to the G19/23. The full size M&P is .5" taller than the G19. All other dimensions are so close as to be insignificant.

Is there a specific reason you want that exact size?

Another question that I have is, will a full size M&P slide fit on the compact frame? That would be a great carry gun for me.

I'm not sure I get this at all. A Glock is... a Glock. A Smith M&P is... an M&P. If you like the Smith, buy the Smith. If you want a Glock, size or quality or finish or grip or.... get a Glock. Don't buy a Smith just to not buy a Glock and with the Smith was a Glock. I have both and appreciate them for their differences not their similarities.

What would the purpose of that be? I'd pass on buying one, I prefer Smith's version of small, medium & large better than Glock's version of small, medium and large.

Not to be too picky about this, but Glock actually has small, medium, large and extra large.

In 9mm: Glock 17, 19, 26 and 34.
In .40: Glock 22, 23, 27 and 35.

That consideration probably stems from the engraving on the side of the slide reads M&P (insert caliber) Shield

Shield, Compact, Full Size and 5" Pro. ;)

Mine says M&P Single Stack Mini.

Since the Shield's primary selling point is its slim design, I don't really think it lines up 100% with the G26/G27. Too many people have asked, "When is Glock introducing a single stack G26?"

I see the Shield being more special than just being "the small M&P."

For 9mm/.40, the M&P line offers better choices than Glock, I think. Mainly because the "typical" small, medium and large are close, but then you throw in the Shield as a cherry. The Shield is much smaller than anything that Glock has. The M&P 9c is barely bigger (3.5" barrel) than the G26 (3.4" barrel). The M&P "FS" is 4.25" and the G19 4.1". The G17 is 4.48", while the G34 is 5.31". The M&P Pro comes in 4.25 and 5". The width of these seems to be a difference of .02" as best I can find, with the edge going to Glock. Personally, I much prefer the M&P sizes, but I'm also a guy that used to carry 1911 5", so ...

The G19 is a perfect ccw size and that's why I bought an M&P 45c. It's larger than the 9 and 40 c's and very close to a G19 in size.

The M&P9c size is halfway between the G19 and the G26. The differences are so minor in either direction, it doesn't make a bit of difference to me. I looked at all three before deciding on the M&P9c and have been very satisfied with it.

G19 is way to big to CCW down here in South Florida. Shield is basically the only gun I'll CCW at this point. The one exception bein about 2 weeks in the winter you could get away with something a little bigger.

I use to have both and to me the M&P was not that much bigger than a G19 and held two more rounds. Now I know you can put a G17 mag in a G19 and have 17 rounds also but that makes it bigger as well. The very minimal size difference is what made me trade my G19 for a 4.25 M&P 9 Pro. I could not be happier and the G19 and M&P print the same when carrying.

I can actually carry my full size m&p9 easier than my old glock 23 due to the non blocky nature of the grip... As has been stated, it seems like Smith sizes are half steps off of the glock... Shield<26<compact<19<full-size<17<pro<34

It's a little like comparing apples to apple sauce.

It's only natural to compare the M&P to the Glock. They are both black, polymer frame, striker fired, steel slide and same type of safeties. However, they are very different guns.

While they both use a trigger with a built in safety and a trigger bar, that's where the trigger mechanism similarity ends. Even though they both have polymer frames, they are wildly different. The M&P was designed from the ground up with ergonomics in mind. The Glock obviously was not.

So, even if there was an M&P with exactly the dimensions of a Glock, it would be a completely different gun and they still wouldn't compare well. The dimensional differences are so small, one is not more concealable than the other.

While I believe I understand the reasoning behind the OP, it's really a moot point.

The 9/40 slide will not work on the compact frame. The dust cover/rail is too short. The concept is sound. The 45/45c slides will interchange
