In the UK cats in urban areas often display what some here might think is odd behaviour. Some become local characters sitting on the front wall demanding to be petted by passers-by. There was a cat in one town who spent most of the day wandering around a Ministry of Defence establishment and it was alleged he had his own chair in the accounts department. Apparently his owner had been none the wiser for some time until a worker there told her.

This guy had a gig at the bus stop outside his owners house. Seems he just liked people and was not afraid to come and sit with them while they waited for the bus. He would even greet certain folk who were regulars as they got off. He passed away recently at 22 and the bus company is thinking of naming the stop after him. RIP Smudge, a good cat.

As a cat owner, uh, I mean as cat staff, I approve.

One of my two, who is 12, is not long for this earth. He is suffering from heart failure, which is escalating, despite treatment (you really just slow it down, not cure it). I will e devastated when his time comes.

Cats are the epitome of cool. I had several feline friends growing up & would love to have one now, but as i aged I developed an allergy to cats. An unkind twist of fate!

I take in abandoned kittens I find in the woods. I just tamed a little 3 feral kittens who are now 3 full grown cats. I can call them in at anytime. They accepted me into there family. I learned on the net how to talk with them. No one wanted these feral kittens because they are all black.

Now I'm doing the same thing with two more kittens who no one wanted too. There 9 weeks old and just about come when there called.

I'm trying to teach my yellow lab to say "out" when he needs to go out. I'm very close to him doing it.

Well, as a yellow lab owner (Dad) as well, I wanna see that one on video! :)

People still get wrapped around the axle about black cats even in this day and age. Crazy.

I was at an auction preview when the local friendly black cat wandered in to see who had snacks and the auctioneer nearly stroked out. He was babbling about the cat crossing his path and all that BS. I sat down with the cat to pet it and the auctioneer looked at me with the queer eye and asked me how I could do it. I told him that it was no problem as a ceremonial servant of Old Nick. This provoked more babbling. [bugs bunny] Ain't I a stinker! [/bugs] :D:D:D

Great story, Steve.

The best cat I ever had, a magnificent orange striped tabby, fully operational tomcat with copper-colored eyes, grew up with a fine mutt of a dog. They were puppy and kitten together. We lived in the country, but my job forced us to move to the city. The dog was simply too much of a country boy, used to successfully hunting and eating rabbits and roaming the woods and fields, so we left him with friends who had a farm. We took the cat with us, and the animal nearly grieved himself to death missing his big, shambling pal.

If any adult but me attempted to pick up the cat he would shred the offender to red cole slaw, but the eight-year-old girl down the road could carry him around like a rag doll, with his forepaws hanging over her arm and the rest of him dangling. And I'd swear he would grin.

Cats are great. They will do things their way. If you don't like that....to bad. They will give you the 'drop dead look and raise a paw and amazingly it looks like one "finger" is raised. Then they just turn and walk away.

What a life.

My three feral rid my new place of all the rodents. There much tamer in the house but when they step outside there like wild Panthers.

My neighbors and I don't own any cats but there are a few cats who own the neighborhood -one in particular, which I call "The Landlady". She roams properties at will, sometimes taking siestas on porches, strolling through flowerbeds, and so on. A fairly busy 2-lane street runs through the neighborhood. One evening I came home after dark. When I turned onto the 2-lane, I saw The Landlady walking down the middle of the street, looking at a house on one side, then one on the other. I think she was checking her properties for maintenance issues.

My story is about a neighbors cat. He was a big old gray tomcat. When I would pull into my driveway he would come running, meowing and twisting around my ankles. Only me, not my wife or his neighbors on the other side, not even his owners. I usually scatted him away because I have a slight cat allergy. I didn't know his name but I called him Moochy 'cause I thought he was begging for food. I even sprayed him with the hose a few times to keep him away. Didn't work. Finally one day I was sitting out on the deck, he came running up the stairs and started brushing up against my leg. I gave in and reached down to scratch him between the ears. He was instantly in cat heaven, pushing his head up against my fingers and arching his back and moving under my hand for a good massage. Then he lay down at my feet and took a nap. We became buddies after that, he was with me anytime I was outside. All he wanted was my company.
I'll never know what attracted him to me, 'cause he ignored most everyone else. A couple of years later he just disappeared, don't know what happened to him, but I missed him as if he were my own.

Respect for the British cat. Legendary characters.

I've had a number of ball bearing mousetraps, but my present housekeeper a is spayed female. With such a personality I regret not getting one litter of this particulr strain of cat, being a bengal mix.

My story is about a neighbors cat....

My family would tell you that I am a collector of neighbours' cats. They do seem to gravitate to me and I could bore you with a slew of stories. The latest was the suspect Foreclosure Cat. http://smith-wessonforum.com/lounge/323607-now-ive-gone-done.html

Also if I visit somebody's house there is a very good chance that their "cat that hates visitors" will come to me. My FFL operates from his home and has cats, including his daughter's cat from time to time. He claims I am the only person he knows, other than his wife, who has been visited by all his cats. This includes him as his daughter's cat won't go near him for some reason. Liked me last time I saw it.:D

I like cats that are friendly, but I do not like cats that simply hide or run away. I see no sense in taking in a cat if it will not do anything other than eat and dump. I guess I just had some bad experiences with cats. I like dogs because they just love you unconditionally.

I have only recently this last few years decided I enjoy having cats around. And it's awesome that they even torment each other instead of just me...

Yes, the cat on the bottom was snoozing in the other cat's favorite spot so the other cat just walked right up and plopped down on top of him. It lasted just long enough for the camera phone to snap a pic...

Ahhh cat staff vs dog people, sort of like revolvers vs pistols

I am clearly in the cat staff camp. Probably also why I like our guard dogs, they too are independent personalities and we exist to serve them not the other way around.

We always end up with tamed feral cats in our midst. The cat newspaper is amazing, within a week or at most 2 of the current resident rodent control expert passing away (usually after 8-12 years with us) there is a new feral cat in the neighborhood. Who we eventually tame, spay or neuter and they usually stick around. Sometimes they graduate to exclusively indoor cats, often after a huge vet bill for some altercation with local wildlife.

There is no such thing as a free cat. ;)

I love my solid black cat! He is my bud. He has such a laid back personality. He rides in my lap whenever I have to go on a trip. He hates being in the crate while in the car, but he is just fine after I let him out. I don't believe in stupidstitions, so he fits quite nicely in my house.
