Responsibility regarding concealed carry

What pay phones ? That's so 10yrs ago . I saw a pay phone last year , and called Biggfootette over to see it , so she's know what they used to be.

They have pay phones all over Colorado Springs I assumed they were still arround in other places too

I have two words for you "Pay" "Phone"
How far are you willing to drive to FIND one?

Other than the inside covers of "2600" magazine, I can't tell you the last time I saw a payphone. And most of them were in Eastern Europe.

I really don't see myself flying to Byelarus to drop a dime on a wife beater...

If there was no pay phone available I would of course use my cell but as I stated above they're all over the place where I live.

The point I was trying to make was it is possible to make an anonymous 911 call

Havent read any of the replys here, just the basic opening question. To start with as a 35 year guard I stuck my nose in any trouble between others every time I encounterd it. It was my job. Now retired I suppose I still would, at least at a serious level. Are we talking about two teen agers fist fighting or someone about to off another?
The bible has a verse about a man seperating two fighting dogs will probley get bit! Far as the two teens fist fighting, I would and have waited until they get tired.

Seriously inbetween cell phones , and pricing themselves out of the market ( .75/ call when last seen ) , there are NO more self supporting pay phones. If you really, really want one at your location , you have to have q contract w/ phone co to gaurentee a minimaum revenue. , and/or pay a mpthly fee to keep it turned on. Primarily seen near Amish businesses and communities where they are forbiden to have phones in homes , but are allowed for specific business calls.

How do you guys deal with the responsibility regarding concealed carry? Not so much the responsibility to protect yourself or your family but the responsibility to protect an innocent person or persons. I think it is the responsibility that comes along with concealed carry and the potential consequences that may come if I am forced to use my firearm that is my greatest reservation.

It would be a heavy enough burden if you are forced into a self defense situation. Your life will change forever. Think George Zimmerman will ever be able to live a normal life? To take that chance for a stranger? Not me. I'm not in Vietnam or a cop any more. I don't have to run toward the gunfire. Call me what you want, if it ain't me and mine, I'm out.

Smoke, before you call a man a liar you better do your homework. King james version, proverbs 26 : 17 "He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears."

You gotta remember that when this subject comes up again!

And it will come up again.

They have cameras all over too. Most businesses today have them, as well as cities putting them at intersections and such. Pretty easy to get a pic of you(or your license plate) walking to, at, or away from a public phone. Time stamped too.

I didn't call you a liar I said there is no verse in the Bible about separating fighting dogs or you'll get bit. Your example references grabbing a dog by the ears

And to be clear it wasn't my intent to call you a liar in any case I was pointing out what I perceived as a mistake. I apologize if it appeared that I was calling you a liar

I don't want to hijack the thread into a pay phone argument. I didn't know about the guaranteed revenue thing and that's interesting but there are still a bunch of payphones here so it never occurred to me that they had been phased out elsewhere. Again my intent was to show that however unlikely it is still possible to make an anonymous 911 call

Haven't seen a pay phone in well over 15 years. You can block your cell id but LEOs can still get the location and number when you call 911.

Personally, if it's a big enough deal to call 911 I don't care if my number and location are broadcast, in fact it might save me some time to do so.

I am cool with that. I was quoting scripture I read many years ago without looking up the exact wordage. Come to think about it the only reason someone would try to grab a dog by the ears that I know of would be to pull it off another dog, cat or person.
I done that once and got bit! I had two dogs that got in a squabble in the middle of the house late at night. I got up out of a sound sleep and started to sepperate them. Soon as I started to reach down in the dark I thought I was making a mistake. I instantly got nailed by one of em. My arm swelled up like a ballon, went to the doctor and he had to lance my arm and draw out poison. He said had I not come to him it would have killed me! Maybe thats why I remembered that scripture that way.

Interesting question.

I think my answer is three-fold.

First , I dislike open carry for several reasons. I carry concealed to prevent anyone from thinking about taking it from me. There's some bold , brazen people out there , and much like a purse to a purse snatcher , it's probably very tempting for a criminal-type to stalk and watch for a moment when my attention is focused elsewhere and try to make a grab.

Plus I don't need the hassle of a MWAG call to police to ruin my day.

Second , I am concerned about a miss or over-penetration. I see no need for a handcannon that will go thru and thru multiple perps , walls , windows , doors , etc. The mighty .44 magnum will not "blow your head clean off" , but will travel far after it goes thru a 125lb crackhead without expanding. It has not proven anymore effective as a fight-stopper than a 125gr .357 or 185gr .45 ACP. If a person is beyond a few paces , he's probably not much of a threat unless he has a gun pointed at me. It's duck & cover till he presents a closer shot. I have no need to start spraying rounds in his general direction. And I don't fantasize about multiple well armed , highly trained assailants coming after me. It's far more likely to be a punk thug with a gun or blade coming in close demanding cash/keys. At which time , he's gonna regret his selection of victims.

Third, I'm a firm believer in Glaser Safety Slugs. They're very effective , but have minimal chance of overpenetration or richocet. And being rather light for their caliber , they lose speed rapidly and won't travel as far as a heavy solid bullet.

There's not much I can say that hasn't been said already other than this: Sometimes, it's better to just be a good witness if you can do so without placing yourself in danger.
