Home Shooting Range for my 22s

Very nice setup....We live in central OK, on 40 acres and have 2 home ranges. Got a pistol range and a 200 yard range for the AR's and long range shooting.... Not near as nice as yours, but you just cant beat going shooting whenever you feel the urge!! Very nice job!

Finishing up a paper target holder. We have lots of cardboard boxes at my business, so the plan is to cut some of them to give me a backer board that will slide into the arms of this unit. Then I will attach my targets to the cardboard... probably with thumb tacks.

For the arms we used smaller angle iron & then welded some tabs to hold in the cardboard. The stand is heavier angle iron, turned at an angle to deflect any hits and will be set in concrete, like my other targets. Never done anything like this but makes sense to me. What I saw online was way too light/flimsy for me.

You can reuse thumb tacks...until you shoot them out. And you don't have to remember to take the staple gun down range with you...or realize you ran out of staples and have to go back to reload the staple gun. It's more annoying when when you're doing this at 200+ yards I suppose.

Staples are much more practical than thumbtacks, Jim.

Not yet sure how I will go but I was thinking like the others... that with thumb tacks you don't have to keep a stapler with you at all times. Seems to me it would be more practical to just keep extra thumb tacks on the boards. One less thing to break or get lost... or left in the rain.

I think my lot runs around 4200 sq. ft. I could shoot a rubberband across it diagonally if the house wasn't in the way. :(

A lot of the ranges out here use the small binder clips from office-supply stores for connecting targets to hangers.

To discourage sniping, they charge $ for any one that gets hit.

great set up. i'm really jealous of you guys that can shoot at home. i am building on a 1/2 acer lot with no one behind us, so i told the kids that we would have to get some bb and airsoft guns and a bow to use in the back yard.

Having done it both ways, and watching shooters at my range do it both ways ...

You can keep your thumbtacks. :D

Thanks.

It is some nice steel... real nice. I prefer it greatly over paper but I have just realized I will need to shoot some paper targets. Hard to beat paper when you are sighting in, as I was yesterday when using my CZ. So I am now working on a holder, made out of angle iron, which will allow me to slide in paper targets that are attached to a backer board (cardboard).

For your "cardboard" backer, I use seed corn signs that are "Plastic cardboard" they work great!

After your comment about shootingtargets7.com I ordered one of the 1/2"x 10" gongs. Service was awesome, shipping was really fast, and even when I called to change my order Mark was really cooperative.

I highly recommend them.

I suggest you order another & see if he will cut out a 3" circle in the middle. Then you can make the center reactive. It really makes a difference in my shooting, as there is no doubt when you shoot a bulls eye.

I just placed an order for a 3/8"x 8" gong. I am astounded how inexpensive they are for what you get.

I will get pictures of my new range soon - - - It will open this weekend. I went to a already mined area in my gravel pit and with about $1,000.00 worth of diesel I now have a hole that is 50' wide 170' long ( allowing 50 yard shots ) and 20' deep with an S shaped driveway in that is 12' wide but with the S shape the sound is not detectible in the small town about 1/2 mile away - - - Soybeans are coming off the field to the west today so the backstop will increase from it's current 25' height to 30'

We have rubber conveyor belting for side walks so there is little chance of ricochets. the S shaped driveway will accommodate handicapped vans but with the S shape you cannot see out of the range in any direction from any location.

Any members wanting a free day I am off the 115 MM on I70 about 1/2 way from Indianapolis to the Ohio line.

Send me a PM for details.
