Lightweight Rifle?
Not knocking your mods, your rifle looks great with them! I'm sure they'll be perfect for your application.
However, I chose to go a different direction. I bought my M&P10 specifically because it was the lightest weight 308 AR style rifle I could find on the market. Big Bulls hide in the heavy dark timber on steep hillsides in the middle of season here in Colorado. (They do that nearly every season.) After finally finding a lightweight AR-10, I didn't feel I wanted to add any extra weight to my gun. Thus, no free-float or quadrails for me. Just put on an MOE forend. No back-up iron sights either, just the 9.9oz VX-2 Leupold 2-7x33 scope with the lightweight Nikon off-set rings. I needed to get rid of the harsh impact of the factory buttstock, so I put on a lightweight MOE stock and a softer buttpad. Wanted to redirect the sound and control muzzle rise, but add as little weight as possible, so I had the barrel threaded and installed a 2oz Manticore Nightbreak. Rifle still comes in a just under 8.5 pounds with an empty five round mag in it. Shoots sub MOA with my handloads too. Can't wait to hit the hills this Fall. This thing is going to be perfect in all that heavy timber!!! Who says you can't hunt elk with an AR??? S&W just corrected that notion! Hoorah!
