Just picked up a Shield in 9mm tonight.

I have been eyeing this baby for a few weeks. Funds finally became available and I thought I would stop by the LGS and see if they still had one. They had been moving quickly, so I figured if it one was under glass then it was meant to be. Had 2 of the 9's and 40's in the case. Had to be carma.

I had fondled several of the competition but the Shield just felt better. That means a lot even if a few of the others were a few dollars less. Considered the 40S&W version, but decided to keep the ammo supply to a couple of calibers.

Should be more enjoyable carrying the Shield versus my full size 1911 or Beretta. Looking forward to this weekend and a little range time.

Congrats. Your going to love your Shield every time you pull the trigger. It just get's better and better. Some people get the trigger work done, but i find the 6 1/2 pound pull just right. I have the 40 and pocket carry most days.

trigger smoothing out

After dry firing a couple thousand times and putting approximately 500 9mm rounds down range with my Shield. My trigger pull weight has dropped to a very nice 4.7 lbs. Extremely pleased!

Carrying, yes. Shooting, I'm not so sure. I shoot my 1911 better than any other handgun I have for defensive purposes.

I'm curious to hear your range report on the new Shield.

I will take reliability and the ability to conceal over accuracy for a ccw every time.

Seriously, if you can consistently hit a paper plate at 7 yards you are good to go and for me my Shield does exactly what I need in a ccw. It has gone bang 1,600 times with zero failures and my rounds hit center mass.

Accuracy is relative and I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying, but I'd qualify that statement a little more.

If you can consistently put two rounds in a paper plate at 7 yards, from concealment, in under 2.4 seconds, you're good to go.

I received my Shield last Friday. Have put about 350 rounds of FMJ without any problems, also fired 50 round of JHP again no problems. This will join my carry rotation once the Illinois State Police issue the applications in January. I took the class and range qualification in October, now the wait begins.

Congrats. My wife and I both love carrying and shooting our Shield's. We've both shot 300+ rounds so far and both guns have been flawless.:)

+1 on that!

Rastoff:

Agreed. When I am at the range I practice raising my Shield and firing immediately when I make eye contact with the front sight and at 7 yards I can hit the 8 1/2 x 11 inch target more often than I miss it.

If I am concentrating on accuracy 5 out of 7 rounds are always hitting within 1 1/2 inch of each other.

Bottom line my Shield is more accurate than I am and at 7 - 10 yards every round would be in the bulls eye if I did my part.
