Smart Guns in NJ? Yikes!

Just another reason to leave New Jersey.
I fled in 1972 and may I say would rather be dead than exist in the " Garden State" I apologia to those who like it there.
I have had this view since I entered the service and it was reinforced when the freedom was violated after I left.
I will never forget the harassment I got when applying for my second permit. That time a hand gun one. I had just turned 21 and was treated by the West Deptford PD like Jack the Ripper. I told the officer I didn't need the grief and would buy my gun in Virginia. This about drove him over the edge. I destroyed my NJ drives license and became a full time VA resident. I can not remember if I had a NC residency or how I got a permit to purchase a hand gun in NC. But it was approved by their local PD in 1975.
A smart gun in NJ is the one in your trunk when you relocate to another state.

I would most definitly take a life of a invader who threatens harm on my family or I, he chose his actions and i will prosper with mine. I would much rather regret taking a life of a invader/bad-doer than regret that i did not try and save one of my family members.

Anybody who intentionally and criminally enters an occupied dwelling is by definition a danger to the occupants. The odds are he's not interested in just taking property, but rather wants to use physical force to obtain property, or just because he likes inflicting terror, pain and physical injury.

Getting shot should be the natural consequence of any such behavior.

Glad i wore my boots today, dint know i was going to go through so much ****. And as one posted, im sure someone will come up with a signal that will disrupped it some how....if thats not the plan already, like in katrina instead of going door to door to get the guns, shoot signals through the air to lock up everyones weapons accept for a selected few.....smart crowd control.

I saw these on a show the other day, beleive it or not it was Tac TV showing the prototype off, it says its not ready yet becuase cb radio frequencies can jam it and your garage opener and a few other things. Theres i ID transmitter that you keep on you and if the weapon is infront of you it is armed so if your weapon is taken and directed at you it will be safe but hopefully a garage door in 75ft isnt being opened even the so called gunnies on TV are buying into this **** ***?

Leaving humor aside, this smart gun will require one to wear a special watch. I see a couple problems with this:

1. Potentially it will be easy to tell who is armed and who isn't in any situation simply by looking for the special watch. Unless they offer several different versions, that seems unwise.

2. If you have the misfortune of being dispossessed of your watch, or it malfunctions (perhaps in a robbery, or by being submerged in water, or due to a dead battery or the force of an auto car accident or impact with pavement, etc., etc.), or if the battery or electronics in the gun fail for similar reasons, then one is armed only with an inoperable gun.

3. What problem does this really solve? How many people are killed with their own gun in the hand of another and how far does the attacker have to be in order for the gun to become inoperable? I assume owners will store their guns in proximity to the special watch so if a kid or burglar is going to steal the gun will they not also steal the watch? Or does a gun owner in NJ have to give up any nice watches and always wear the plastic one with the picture of a gun on it or keep it locked in a separate location form the gun?

Lastly, given the difficulty of getting a permit to carry a gun in NJ, this would seem to be one of the last states where such a device would be useful. They certainly don't intend them to be for law enforcement.

I hear you. I left New Jersey for Pennsylvania years ago. I know lots of people who have also made the move.
I was walking my dogs along the Delaware last night. New Jersey was right across the river. I was carrying as I always do. I was thinking if I was across the river, how many laws I'd be breaking. Probably more than I could think of.
A citizen of PA going about his business on this side, a "dangerous" criminal on the Jersey side.
