Shield 40 Mishap

Sorry to see this happen to you, I had a Taurus 709 9mm did the same thing to me at the range. Mine blew the slide clear off. S&W does the repair work for Taurus and replaced the gun with no explanation what happen. Needless to say I would never buy another Taurus. I have the Shield 40 and it has about 1,000 rounds down the tube and I never have had problem after they replaced it bcause of the mag drop problem (long story). I never shot reloads in any of my guns only factory loads and only Lawman. My SD carry are Ranger Ts 180 gr. and HST 180 gr.. I stocked up ammo before the election in 2012. I see HST can be found here and there, but Ranger Ts, hard to find.

It only my opinion, but I would no be too hard on the Shield 40, it great gun. XDS 9s and 45s both suffered recalls. I carry the Shield quite a bit and I trust it, I also carry my PM9, Glock 27 and Ruger SR9C. I a Glock guy, but I love the Shield 40 as well. None of all the guns I own get to go out on the town until I put at least 1,000 rounds down the pipe.

I hope S&W or Federal makes it right for you. Every gun manufacturer out there (including Glock) has had its problems.

Hope your wounds heal quick.

Hey pffft. The shield Had a recall too...

Well, that's what I figured it was a link to. If you actually read it you'll see that it's a safety alert and not a recall.

The two are fundamentally different. That's why I asked for a reference to a recall on the Shield, you won't find one because there isn't any.

What difference does it make of its a safety alert or a voluntary recall? It's the same thing if you have to send it back. Wording is just that. Wording. I own one of each and am not bashing either one but people like you that want to make twisted judgements really erk me

Not required to return shield to mfg. field test n if it passes no worries if not needed returned. XD was mandatory recall. My 2 shields were aok

Well I received today the box of ammo Federal said they were going to send me. I had told them I wasn't getting a 40 back that I had a 9mm and fixing to purchase the Glock 30SF 45 so they sent me a box of American Eagle 230gr FMJ 45's. I thought that was nice of them. I still haven't herd a word from Smith&Wesson.

I missed something. If you have not heard back from S&W, how do know they are not going to just send you a new one, 40?

I spoke with them the day they called for me to send the gun in. We discussed that I didn't want the 40 back. They said I could get the 9 shield back no problem or maybe even something else. If they send me a 40 I will send it down the road.

There is no twisted judgement here. I simply think things should be called what they are. All trucks are automobiles, but not all automobiles are trucks.

In a recall, every product has that issue. In a safety alert it is only possible that a product has that issue. That's a distinct difference.

So, to say that it was a recall implies that every one of those had an issue. That is not the case with the Shield and we've seen many people post here that they didn't have the issue.

Sorry to have irked you. That was not my intent.

Tomorrow its been 4 long weeks without my Shield 40. I sent them a email yesterday but haven't herd back yet. That's only the second time I've contacted them since they've had the gun. You would think they would be all over this no matter what they had in the shop. I would be if I was a gun manufacturer.

At this time S&W is not all over anything.. It is taking them 3 weeks to fix the trigger recall. I don't think they care about anything but making money. They still haven't fixed the FTE problems with the 9 mm Shield...

Yea its about to tic me off. They could at least call or something. I haven't herd anything from them unless I contact them first. My friend sent in his XDS they send him a email every Friday I think it is giving him a update. I'm die hard smith fan and I went out and bough my first Glock the other day and I love it. And Im not knocking smith I know there busy but this is crazy.

I was having the same FTE problems with this Shield 40 to. We discussed them sending me a 9 Shield back already and I'm gonna tell them I don't want a Shield back period cause of all the problems. It used to be yea this guy is having a problem and a couple other folks. Now I see about as many problems as I do happy owners.
