What Does "Tactical" Mean To You?

It means short hair, a scruffy beard, a black rifle with the shoulder thingy that goes up and high capacity assault clips.

Don't forget the bungee sling that keeps the shoulder thingy positioned behind your right ear. The farther the tacticooler. ;)

I think of tactical as combination of gear for a particular purpose. And of course it must always be black.

Anyone want to take a guess what mission this tactical gear if for? :D

The word Tactical is also used to check for any sign of life when an old curmudgeon is found face down in the dirt. If there is no sign of life after saying the word Tactical, try Tacticool... works better than a set of defib paddles.

Now if that gun and holster were somehow mated together with leash that would be tactical. Tactical is for wanna be soldiers or cops or Zombie slayers. But I do own a American Sporting Rifle.

Not necessary. If you look closely you can see the concealed lay-zer in the middle of Tactical Dog's forehead. :D

I once overheard a gun shop commando tell another about how they could use some kind of something or other to simulate an IED in their next tactical rifle match. As I was recovering from wounds from an IED at the time, it was all I could do not to ask if they were going to blow pig guts all over each other, too.

I have always thought in terms of tactical vs strategic; Active versus Preventive. But then, as a Cold War Child I heard way too much about the difference between tactical and strategic nukes as a young'un.

Strategic weapon: highest value is in the threat it poses to someone dumb enough to attack you.

Tactical weapon: one you actually use on someone dumb enough to attack you.

Looks more like a Strategic Dog to me - - and his strategery is working!

Any time someone uses the word tactical to describe gear, it automatically makes me think "gadget"...

Welcome in club buddy... Like the famous question : How many did you kill.... I turn around and leave

I am not happy seeing regular Patrol Officers dressed like SWAT (at least in South Florida). Exterior vests, thigh holsters, etc. What's up with that? I was on the job for 25+ years and don't agree with that trend.

Me either, and I do get mad when they refer to people as civilians...

In my 34 year LEO experience, "Tactical" meant turning your brain on before you went out armed into dangerous places. Today, it seems to be nothing more than a term that is used to sell "cool" products to the unthinking, uninitiated and untrained.

I will admit, I own and use a lot of gear that was issue when I was in the military in the 90's. My apologies if that may offend some of the more sensible members of the gun community, but I just don't know much better...and I got most of it dirt cheap.

To me 'tactical' means looking for trouble. Like so many people want to be considered rough and ready for whatever comes. Just like there are an awful lot of ex-seals out there.

Gotta train like ya fight, my friend. Situational awareness is everything. When ya let yer guard down is when the fit will hit the shan... ;)

To me it means little, to the commercial market tactical means $$$$$

Tactical as a marketing term in the gun community is just silly.

As Uncagrunny notes above, in the English language it is in contrast to strategic. Strategic is invading Normandy. Tactical is your dad's plan to take out a particular machine gun once he got there.

If it doesn't offend some folks, or otherwise cause discomfort and distress in the form of headache, nausea, heartburn and a rise in blood pressure, it probably isn't tactical.
