First Post-What Model S & W, M & P 15/22 ?

Explain the "threaded" barrel thing.

The A1 style has a flash hider on the end. This unscrews and reveals a 1/2x28 threaded barrel. Perfect for attaching a can or barrel shroud.

I made this pic for your comparison.

Exactly. The MOE is a nice gun, however as you say, S&W is using the bottom of Magpul's offerings. How many people would start with a basic 811033, and then pick the same stock & grip as on the MOE? I doubt many would. Most would go with the higher end, better product, such as you mentioned. I too have upgraded to the CTR stock & MOE + grip.

I guess the point is, if I'm gonna use Magpul gear, which I do on my AR & 15-22, then it is gonna be their best stuff... not bottom of the line. My dad always told me it was better to buy the best once, and that applies here IMO.

I think we are on the same page here, but I just wanted to be clear about the MOE stuff... it's good, quality items. Definite upgrades over stock items. For the price, they are good options, particularly for a .22 that isn't going to be your deployment weapon.

However, if you don't mind spending more there are parts (from magpul and others) that have more features. In this particular case (a $1000 15-22 budget), the MOE parts are just not what I would go with. It's not a bad choice, any extra funds could then be diverted to an optic, mags and ammo. No disrespect to the MOE line.

Most certainly. However, like buying a garden hose... you have good, better & best. If your intent is to ever end up with best, don't spend the extra money & start with better. Get the basic & save that money to go on getting the best. If you will never want a stock with a friction lock and/or storage compartment... MOE is for you. If you will never want a top tier grip with maybe a battery storage compartment... MOE is for you. If you will always run with backup sights... MOE is an option.

I personally don't use back up sights. I prefer having my flip up magnifier all the way back plus my eyes are getting too old for them. I personally can't stand a wobbly stock. I know some MOE don't wobble and know there are some fixes for those that do, however a CTR or STR will never do so. The stock MOE grip is not bad but the + grip feels better plus I really like & need the storage compartment.

Point being, the basic 811033 is a real good gun. It is all some will ever want or need. If you want better, and will never upgrade, then the MOE is your best bet. If however you are like so many here & like to dress up your gun, then IMO, the MOE is not for you.

Thanks for all the input the SAR in PHX in a u of weeks, and I am sure there will be a bunch of 15/22 for sale from dealers. Now all I need is pricing information, so I can make realistic offers.

Hate offending with low ball prices, but also hate paying retail in this recession.
