.357 Model Question

Very nice gift! Looks like about a 3 1/2" barrel. Shows some wear but I'd be quite certain it's still worth a bit more than a grand. Some consider this the ideal barrel length for an N frame revolver.

A factory letter for this type of gun would be a good idea - you can find the form by clicking on Downloads above. A good $50 investment.
Alan,
The Downloads button is an SWCA feature. Only SWCA members can even see it.

That is why I put the letter form in all the-

That is a neat old gun.
I agree with others that it looks like a 3-1/2. Is it?
What else can you tell us about it?
It is quite valuable.

Well this is all pretty exciting! It's a 3-1/2", I don't have any papers on it or anything besides what I showed in the picture. That gun was given to my wife's father by his maternal grandfather, they came from old money in New York somewhere. That's as much history as I have on it, but I will definitely be researching and learning more now that I am starting to learn what I have.

I'd get as much info as you can on the gun and the grandfather. I'd also spend the $50 for the letter to see just how, when and where it shipped.

Just for grins, I might take it into a gun shop just to see what they would offer for it. You'll hear every reason in the world why it's a piece of ****, how nobody wants those old guns anymore, and that he's being really generous to offer you $300.

I'm going to take the opposing position. The 3-1/2" was perhaps the least desirable barrel length at the time in 1935. As such there were fewer made in this length making them rare.

That was an awesome gift and hopefully you should buy a lottery ticket now after finding out what you just were given.

Welcome to the Forum and congrats on such a wonderful gift. But be warned, you put that on Gun Broker, even for a high reserve and you just might be out a gun. Suffice to say it is worth at least several thousand dollars.

No doubt!

Someone's turn at the top of the karma pile has come up, and he better take advantage of it while he can.;)

HAHA..Agreed..Im waiting for my Karma...Ya know the kind where you walk into your LGS and the owner, who is a buddy says

"Hey a Old Smith & Wesson came into today...Not sure what it is, but it says Reg 1 on it... Guy I bought it from tried to tell me it was Edgar Hoovers, I gave him 350 for it You can have it for 500 if you think it will work in your collection"

Can that Karma Strike me...I have only dreamed about it a couple hundred times...Lol

Once again....Congrats on a Great Piece of S&W History...and Im guessing it will shoot as good as it Looks....SWWWEEETTT!!!:D:D

WOW, just WOW! You are a very fortunate man. You might think about treating your wife to a night on the town for this one. It never would have happened with her! ;)
