To MOE or not to MOE, that is the question

Congrats on a great little rifle, any M&P 15-22 is a good choice.I personally like the FDE MOE version after owning all the earlier examples.

Greets everyone

Just got my MOE 15-22 and was wondering how people deal with the sloppy fit of the stock. i.e. The MOE stock on my 15-22 has a pretty good rattle/looseness to it.

thanks

I didn't notice it on mine, but I eventually swapped it out for a magpul acs which locks down.

So I think of figured out what's going on with the Magpul butt stock on my MOE 15-22. It looks like the spring loaded pin is not putting any pressure when the pin is in one of the "location holes". When the stock is not in on of the detent positions the stock is nice and wiggle free.

Here's a very short vid I made of the wiggle. Note, the wiggle is the same in every 'detent' position of the stock. I'm a little chagrined (to say the least) about the quality of this stock. :(

I have the MOE Black o. My 15-22, FDE of my 5.56 and FG on my .308, so I guess you know my answer!

That looks to be irregular. I'm not sure who you contact about warranty issues, Magpul or Smith&Wesson (I'd start with S&W). While the MOE stock is known to have a little wiggle (and I do mean little), what you are experiencing there is not normal. You should get a replacement.

Having that said, putting some of the soft side of velcro along the tube under the stock helps take out any remaining wiggle if you are (like me) too cheap to shell out the money for a stock with friction lock (or something else that eliminates wiggle) for your .22lr

I 'snugged up' the stock with some tape. A longer term solution is replacing this stock with the Magpul CTR/STR or trimming wings on the adjuster lever so that the spring loaded pin can extend farther into the hole in the frame . Right now the pin doesn't put any force on the frame and thus the stock can flop around. :(

JMO, but the basic design of this MOE stock is compromised as there is no 'friction' clamp like on 'regular' Magpul stocks.

cheers

I bought the MOE version to get the Magpul stuff but as I have advanced things started falling off. Now I don't have a single Magpul item on her anymore.

Curious minds would like to see a list of your new build spec.............

Speaking of Magpul...

Primary Arms has sale on CTR stocks for $57. That's as low as I have ever seen them.

I can get them from a dealer for right @$66 shipped.

But this is a great deal too. Had a few other things in the cart, so I added another CTR.

Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, BlueLizard that is a AFG. Its an old picture before I started running a grip pod. Thanks for noticing. I guess the members on this forum are too smart to let anything get past them.

;)

No worries! Nonetheless, a very cool project you have there and although it's unlikely that we'll see any on this side of the pond, I wish you all the best with it :)

Bullpups are allowed (as long as they satisfy the minimum barrel/overall length of 12/24"), but it's just that in my experience, few people are willing to ship custom firearms bits to the UK due to the cost/bother of registering for ITAR purposes (I've been refused UK shipping from SWS and NDZ and my latest fancy would be an ACH handle, but still waiting for a response to my messages enquiring about UK shipping). Ho hum!
