Whats with the 20 round boxes of 9MM?

And people routinely pay $2-3 for 20-24 oz of what amounts to filtered tap water.

Not me, im too cheap or wily for the water scam. I buy one bottle-then flavor enhancer, and hundreds of uses per bottle.

I dont know? maybe ill rethink my position on 20 round boxes? Im used to that for rifle cartridges..........

Look at the "reloading" section of this site (I know, it should be called "handloading", "reloading" is when you put a fresh mag in) and ask questions. I load mainly 9mm and make about 1200 a week. First thing to ask yourself is "how many rounds a week/month/year will I load?" and then decide on equipment from there. :D

Danke, and once I get into handloading? ill probably triple my yearly consumption. :-)) Also, im hoping to start a new job by March, the extra $$$ will come in handy. :D

Most of us will balk at a $62.50 box of 50 SD 9mm cartridges. But $25 sounds just right for 20. I know during the "last shortage" ('08?), I had to clench to pay $60 for 1 box 50 Federal HST 9mm. Last time I bought ammo (except for "garage sale" finds). Joe

OK, the 20 round boxes are most likely specialties, but buying a 20 round box of 9mm just doesn't feel right. Go through one and half mags and that's it.:(

Just like 50 round boxes of .38 Special ammo designed for 6 cartridge cylinders.

They're actually doing you a favor. That stuff is so expensive, most folks would have to take out a loan for a full 50 round box. $1.50 a round!?? I'll bet the Lone Ranger's silver bullets don't cost that much!

Kinda like the old joke about the high cost of a gallon of gas. If it gets any more expensive, they'll have to sell it by the quart.

Or by the liter which is how it's done everywhere except the US

reminds me of paying around $95 dollars for a tank of gas for Susanne's Audi--back in Germany almost 14 years ago.

I just got back from England and Ireland, and after doing the math and conversions, a gallon of gas over there is around $9.00!!

I remember that quite too well when I was in Germany circa 2000.

When I left Germany in 1979 it was around 1 DM per liter which equates to around $2.50 a gallon. Gas in the states was around $.50 a gallon (except in CA:eek:) at the same time. (this is going by my flawed memory so if I'm wrong I claim senility.)

SGAmmo had the 50-round boxes of Gold Dot 135gr 38 specials for around $28 a box last October/November(before the shortage). I'm still kicking myself for not stocking up on them, as I haven't seen that ammo in ANY size box since then.

I've switched over to the old FBI load in 38 special partially because it's available and I can afford to shoot it occasionally a little bit better than I can the $1/round stuff.

I recall a Captain in the police department, and also a good friend of mine giving me several boxes of 20 each about 10 years ago.He told me they were out of date and they used them to qualify, had to fire 20 rounds to qualify .

I had not noticed or seen them on shelf's at any of my LSG back then, then they seem to have begun to appearing over the last couple of years at first they were only the critical defense stuff but as of late I am seeing just about anything that's a hollow point in those boxes. Now granted most of the 20 round boxes are the hot loads but it's beginning to become more and more common with all calibers and styles of ammo.

Better to sell 20 for the price of 50 than 50 for the price of 20.

I work in a LGS on Saturdays and it seems the guys behind the counter have more of a problem with the 20 round boxes than the customers do, many still buy according to box price, give me the cheapest 9mm you have, I'm just going to shoot some holes in paper. Well I have a box of 20 for $25.00 or a box of 50 for 44.00...
OK,I take the $25.00 ones.
