I've been thinking lately, and I'm pretty sure that our society is circling the drain.

If anybody has seen the movie "Idiocracy", that's what I'm talking about.
Not only the fact that most people in public are plugged-in techno-zombies, but also several times lately, I've seen things that only an idiot would think up.

Things like....

A trash can in a fast food joint with a round hole and a square tray.
A tray that is several inches wider than the hole you are expected to empty into, so you can't help but make a huge mess:

Or, something like a paper towel dispenser hanging only a few inches above the trash can, so you have to reach INTO the trash can to tear off the towel:

These are just a couple examples, but if you look around, you see it everywhere.
Hang on, folks! It's going to be an interesting ride!  :D :D

First off,I doubt that there are two movies called "Idiocracy" so I'm sure I downloaded the right movie. Secondly,I hope you didn't pay to watch it. I started watching it a few minutes ago for free (online) and couldn't get past the first ten minutes.Frankly I was shaking my head after the first few minutes but wanted to get to the gist of what you were trying to convey here.

I think we would all agree that many people should not be allowed to reproduce. I also think that we are being dumbed down as a Society.Technology has made our lives easier but if it fails a lot of us wouldn't know what to do to survive.

Sorry if my post has nothing to do with your thread. Maybe you should elaborate a little more about the movie because for me bamboo shoots under my fingernails would be more preferable than watching that movie.

Just saying...

A close and ultimately amusing, possibly enlightening, review of the historical and -- perhaps more importantly -- literary record of human civilization shows we have always appeared doomed by the estimation of those paying attention.

Yet here we are... ;)

I recently saw a set of architectural drawings for a car dealership with no provision to get cars into or out of the showroom. I just had to call the architect's office and personally ask their intent. Their response was that the drawings were "only preliminary". Looked like a complete set meant to bid and build off of to me!?!?!?

And they are the professionals!

One of most recent "Uh?" experiences is at my local gas station. The owner says that I'm a good customer,in that I pull up to the farthest pump.Apparently, many stop at the first pump, and get indignant and confrontational, when asked to pull up.He has to explain to them that another customer might come along, and he could be filling their tank as well. They still give him a bad time after that. I guess that manners have gone out of the window,or I live in an area of VIPs....Seriously,is that too much to ask of someone??? ....Seriously,why doesn't a single day pass without a "Uh?" happening.

Unfortunately not all cars have the filler on the same side (I know, they should) so if there is only one row of pumps and my vehicle's filler is on the opposite side I have to drive around you and back up to the pump behind you. It's a no win situation.

Actually the round hole in the top of the trash can along with the square tray is a neat idea. It keeps the plonks from dropping the tray into the trash can. Thoughtful intelligent folks must be protected along with the morons.

Yes, the movie Idiocracy is loaded with humor that not everybody can enjoy or appreciate.
The point I was making was not the crude humor, but rather the stupidity displayed throughout the movie.
Anybody that has seen the movie knows exactly what I'm talking about.

Like the the jail-break scene where the PA system hollers "Excape, excape" and two automated machine guns blow each other to bits.

I think that's the direction that we're heading in as a society.

There are all kinds of movies. Why not movies to motivate people to becoming something in there Life? We're doomed with the past recent generations who don't want to work. We're Will we end up?

From an engineering stand point everything is over engineered. We need to get back to basics and stop being a throw away society when something breaks. If it breaks fix it if it's cost effective.

Why aren't all the gas filler openings in the middle of the car so it can be filled from both sides? Car designers? Anyone?

Why do I use the drive thru and never really get to read the menu before someone is asking me for my order when my car just stops.
Stupid designers put the menu before the order speaker box. You need two menus posted at the drive thru. Your losing money because if the people could read the menu they would order more stuff. When your hungry you buy more to eat.

Now they open up Christmas shopping season sooner then they push early bird sales on us so we shop sooner. Then they wonder why there not making money over the shorter shopping season last year. First you only have a certain amount of shoppers let's say it's a fixed number so for ample it's one hundred people. They buy the same amount if the season is one month longer or one month shorter. The gross number stays the same.
Now the retailers say they lost money. This so called fabricated loss effects the stock market. Then they don't exactly figure in the online shoppers too. My point is how do these sales effect the whole world in the stock market?
I don't understand it.

New cars and trucks. How can anyone afford a new car or truck. The Chevy custom off road looking truck is between 4ok to 60k. My first house in '73 was only $29k I recently sold it for $225k and I lost money because a year before it was worth $325k. When will it all end? How does a young family survive today? We are circling the drain. To make my money back on a new car I need to drive it for 300k.

I think that says it all. Last night leaving the Celtic Woman/Atlanta Symphony Christmas Concert, I was amazed at the number of people who had their "smart phones" on while trying to walk out of the Arts Center in a crowd of hundreds of people. My wife walks with a cane and one woman almost knocked her down twice before my wife told her "If you can't keep your face out of that phone long enough to walk, please get in front of me." Plus during the concert, there were people who never took their eyes off their phones. I think we should start calling them "dumb phones" instead because many of the people using them are certainly not smart!

I reckon that you still made a couple of hundred grand on the house, you just didn't have it on the market in those better, earlier times.
I've been through that same nonsense at a fast food place.I'm not even through the door, and someone is yelling,"Can I take your order?".Even when I stand back, and it's obvious that I'm reading the menu board, not making eye contact, they persist.
Cellphones and gizmos? I wish I had a dollar for every time that I saw someone pulling out of their driveway, and they're already on the phone.....Can't they call from home??

"I think society is doomed."

You say that like it is news. Of course it is doomed. The only question is how long will the death throws last.
