Stupidity at Sea

I really thought this was headed in a Christopher Walken direction.
I get it.....

Today I went out on the flats, shallow water bays to lay down some tracks and waypoints with my new Garmin hand held GPS.
After 2 hours of doing my thing, I leaned over and the device fell out of my jacket pocket-klonk- onto the deck. My buddy and I both said "wow, close one. Lucky it didn't go overboard..."
.
.
Five, FIVE MINUTES LATER, this idiot (known as old texmex) leaned over Again and there was no "klonk", but a splash. And my Garmin "waterproof, and it floats" GPS sank like a bolt in a bathtub, in 20 ft. of saltwater.

Duh......:p. Adios $350.00

Please note: I know where "sympathy" is located in the dictionary:D

Not stupidity, Wardrobe malfunction. Sorry for the loss and at least it wasnt a gun.

Old Tex Mex,

Several years ago we were entering Pass Cavillo ( Port O'Conner) when we got the boat turned sideways and a wave hit us, threw one of my friends overboard. When we got him back on board, he was missing his Glock that he was carrying.
All of us on board felt it was no big loss.

Gilligan is that you little buddy? :D

Sorry Bud, that stinks. I'm glad to see you can keep your sense of humor about it though!!

Didn't feel like a swim, huh?

;)

Buddy and me were trolling behind the reef off Waimanalo, HI. Outboard sputtered and quit, no big deal, time to switch tanks.... uh oh, tides taking us into some bad wave action on the reef. In my haste I managed to spin the gas cap on one tank off and into the drink, and just reflexively went right after it. Caught it about 8-10 feet down. Funniest thing is when I popped back up with it, buddy was saying, "Jeez, I didn't know where the hell you went! Don't do that to me!"

Anyway, hoped you marked the location, 20 ft. isn't bad for a free dive. Triangulation off landmarks still works (assuming you were in sight of land), and it sounds like sandy bottoms. Tide will move it, but it might just be where you left it.

Or not....

My dad once lost two pair of reading glasses on two consecutive fishing trips while bending over the side of the boat. He bought drug store glasses after that.

Old TexMex, a man of your knowledge and background (who knows where to find "sympathy":D) must surely know the definition of "Insanity"....

You know, doing the same thing and expecting different results...

Wait, nevermind.... You got a different result.
After trying again, it did go into the water.

Forget it, right lesson, wrong time.

:D :D :D :D

The point of land was a very steep drop off, into 45' channel with a 3-4 knot current pouring through, and visibility is about 1 foot.:( , not quite like I used to free dive thirty feet spearfishing in Australia. No, she's long gone that one...:)

Yeah, I don't care to swim where I can't see what I may be swimming with.. I've been startled good by the grey Hawaiians a couple times in bad visibility.

I could have been worse. My long gone friend dove into the lake to cool off. Unfortunately he forgot his glasses and wallet with several hundred $$$ that in now under several hundred feet of water. :(

I think I saw Walken in some movie where he was a mercenary trying to overthrow some African country.

Other than that, all I know about him is that he and Robt. Wagner were drinking and arguring on Wagner's yacht the night that Wagner's wife drowned. (Natalie Wood Wagner.)

Am I thinking of the same guy, and what did I miss?

Check the Movie "Pulp Fiction". Walken had been a POW in Nam, he kept swallowing a dead friends watch so he might someday get free and give it to the dead pilots son, young "Bruce Willis".

Actually if you have not seen Pulp Fiction it might be a good one to watch.

Thanks. No, I've not seen it.
