Show your motorcycles!!

I come from a riding family, my father raced Norton and Triumph back in the 50s and I have had bikes my entire life until recently. I have been bikeless for the last 3 years, I do miss it, but not as much as I though I would.

My old '77 R100S, at 220k she started needing a rebuild, so I sold it to a BMW collector who could give it the TLC it deserved.

A Rat Bike I fixed up from a wrecked Honda-Matic that was given to me. I got it ridable and gave it to a friend that needed transportation.

I don't have any pics of anything older like the Honda Siverwing, Yamaha 650xs, or SR500 Thumper

You have some good taste in bikes. I bought myself an SR500 as a law school graduation present, and rode the wheels off it until it was stolen. Bought a '73 Bonneville with the proceeds. My boy got a CX500 from me when he graduated from high school. I still have the R100S that I got in trade for my Ford Jubilee. It has a fresh top end with light wrist pins, and it goes like stink; one of the fastest airhead boxers. That CM400 is an under-appreciated mount. A buddy turned one into a pretty cool back-road explorer.

It's sold, but that was my 1989 Kawasaki ZXR 750 H1, the mother of all ZXR. I gave it new tires (Bridgestone BATTLAX-92 in 120 front and 180 rear instead of 190 rear, Metisse 30mm tail raiser kit, Remus muffler, engine set up with earlier firing point and raised max rev. to 12k instead of 10k). Drove almost like a bicycle, despite its ~512 lbs empty.

Yes, I like crotch rockets and I miss it. It was fun (and kinda dumb at the same time) seeing two sets of knee pads disappear on regular roads during summer season...

lowriderfxr, The one my daughter is sitting on with me also was a 1964. I remember paying $1,500 for it around 1978. It was low mileage.

Where's all the old Brit bikes, in pieces on the side of the road or somethin'? Don't let Lucas let you down! :D Well, 'ole Cholo might want to PhotoBomb the thread with a couple I'd like to own. No more room in the garage, but I could picture them in my living room or kitchen. Great life--No wife :)

There's a '57 T-Bird fonzie bike in the back of my shed, last of my Triumphs. I used to ride it a lot, not far but more often than anything else I had. Iron head, 6:1 c.r., battery-free electrics; it was ready to go at any time, ant time of year. It needs a lot of attention now, and my health no longer lets me do the late-night shop sessions that are necessary.

Marshwheeling, it sure would be cool if someone brought the old Triumph back to its former glory for you. It's not only labor intensive, but it's expensive too! My Shovelhead, on page one, sat for years until a good friend and I refreshed it to what it used to be using NOS parts from all over the country. It took us months, off and on in the evenings, to get it where it is right now. No rebuild, except the carb, just making it right. $125 for 2 simple NOS bushings for the rear caliber!

Any chance of getting a pic posted as it sits right now? There must be some cool history there...

PS: I love the old Panhead pics, and all those pics from days gone by.

My first BMW was a '76 R90s...still the most beautiful motorcycle BMW has ever made, IMHO. And back in 1978, I bought a brand-new SR500...what a hoot that was to ride! :)

I work on the road and come across a lot of stuff. This CB was bought by a contractor while working on his customer's home. His customer just wanted to get rid of it. $100, tires and fluids and he was on the road...

And with this next one, I saw him while I was riding my own and just had to follow him until he pulled over in a gas station so I could take pictures. He did all the work himself - including the paint. Love it!

Back in 1996, I walked into Bob's BMW in Jessup, Maryland, to get an exhaust pipe spanner for my 1976 R90s. I ended up buying a brand new leftover '95 K75s.

I loved that K75, and used to tell people that if it could cook, I would marry it. But after 17 years, that forward-leaning sporting riding position was killing my 60 year-old, twice-operated-on, back.

It got to the point that I was not riding much at all, and I had to decide: Do I want to have a garage ornament that my sons will inherit, or do I want to ride?

So, last summer I bought a brand-new R1200R from Max BMW in Troy, New York. I flew to Albany and rode it home in an afternoon -- 320 miles -- and knew immediately I had made the right decision.

For about two weeks I owned both bikes, before I sold the K75. And before I stopped riding for the season, in early November, I had put 2500 miles on the new bike.

Looking forward now to warm weather so I can get back to riding...
