M&P-15T Malfunction?

Great info as always JaPes especially for us newbies. Its really easy to get an adrenaline rush while handling these amazing creations and fail to take the time to besafe. Especially with all the YouTube video "training" out there. I remember seeing one with the guy teaching you to slap the mag and then hammer the FA and try to fire again. After reading here I'd never due this unless it was a 2way gunfight and the reward was worth the risk. Also my sport has no FA but without a great forum like this. Us newbies will seek any info we can gain. Even bad info.

The "Tap, Rack, Bang" procedure is a good one when used to fix a properly diagnosed malfunction. It isn't a cure-all. You're shooting on the range. You pull the trigger, feel a lighter than normal recoil impulse, the case ejects weakly. The bolt strips off a round from the mag, but it does not return to full battery. Press the forward assist, keep in shooting? Sport owners, nudge the bolt into battery and keep on shooting?

Not a good idea. You're on a one way range. You have the time to put your rifle in a safe condition: no mag, no round in the chamber. Hinge the rifle open, pull the BCG, and check for a barrel obstruction (squib). Pull the trigger when there is a squib in the barrel....BOOM.

My best advice to people new to he AR-15 platform:

If while you're on the range and something does not feel right, stop. Listen to your subconscious gut warning. Seek assistance from the range officer or range personnel. When you're new you don't know what you don't know yet.

Heck, I'm not new and I still don't know everything. I always ask questions.

I'm full of questions myself. Lol this is what I meant without this forum I wouldn't have thought about a squib or blockage or thought to check the barrel if the recoil or sound wasn't right.I'd have slapped the mag and loaded another round. Now I know better. There is so much good and safe info on this site that makes it great.

Thanks for all the help guys, I think the problem was I used something called boresnake "venom" which seemed to clog up my gun causing the oil to keep my round stuck. Just used to much. did a good cleaning and let me bcg parts sit in solvent for a bit and everything was gunk free.

Everything seems to work fine now but I will wait to test 2mrw when I get some snap caps. One questions on them, can I load snap caps in a mag and load them just like I would a normal round? Since my local shop didnt have them I had to order of amazon these are what i got. I just dont want to load them from the mag and have them shatter in my chamber. any input or personal experience with boresnake venom is also great, instructions with it said saturate the tail end of the boresnake with it and when i did it caused this problem.
