thinking about adding a different stock to the 15-22.
looking at some magpul.. what are the differences?
other than the $20 some dollar price....

Magpul MOE Commercial-Spec stock Made in USA

Magpul CTR Mil-Spec stock Made in USA

And then there's the knock offs

Airsoft Magpul PTS Style CTR Stock For Airsoft Rifle ???
What do I need to look for & what to stay away from... Thanks

I just recently got my 15-22, but I have a couple other platforms to use the Magpul stocks with. My favorite are the Magpul CTR MilSpec. The Commercial spec will not fit, and the CTR has an additional lockup feature that makes it fit more snugly and allow for less play in the stock on the buffer tube. If you want to go super crazy, I also like getting the additional Magpul Enhanced Buttpad, it's double thickness and easy to tack on

Also, the prices for the CTR's all hover around $75 and the Buttpad ~$20. Not too much play either way in the market for those at the moment. Amazon is always a good source IMO

In my opinion, there is no point putting magpul accessories on a 15-22. Absolutely if we're talking .223 or 5.56 but when were talking about a .22lr rifle I am all for using the knockoff stuff. I have a CTR stock (milspec) and a set got 2nd gen MBUS. They are 25.00 knockoffs and work perfectly. I am also using a MOE grip that is the real deal.

This isnt a rifle that you are going to kick around and a use in Afghanistan nor is it a rifle that your life is truly going to depend on. Have fun without breaking the bank.

In my opinion, there is no point in putting cheap Chinese knockoff Magpul parts on a 15-22. The price difference is negligible when viewed as an investment in the overall life of the rifle, while the quality and peace of mind gained with genuine parts is worth it. In 10 years, I won't be thinking "Man, I wish I'd saved $40 and not bought this genuine Magpul stock that has given me a decade of reliable service."

But 6 months from now, I might be thinking "Man, why didn't I spend $40 more and get the real deal instead of this flimsy piece of junk Chinese fake?"

Now, before anyone gets their knickers in a twist, keep in mind that both of these opinions are worth exactly what you paid for them.

It's your rifle, do what you want with it.

In my opinion... put whatever YOU like on it. If you have the money to spend, spend it. If you don't, then don't. It's as simple as that.

Personally, I outfit my 15-22 with the EXACT same equipment that I have on my AR. Why? Training. I prefer to train on weapons that function, feel and mimic those of the actual weapon I would use in the field. Why don't I just get a .22lr conversion kit for my AR? Because I'm not going to dump a ton of trash and debris into my AR... I would rather pay for the 15-22 WITH all of the upgrades/modifications (still far less than the cost of my AR).

Do I believe in outfitting a 15-22 with Airsoft quality items? Of course. Anyone who has ever played or even watched an Airsoft game would agree that those weapons are put through some SERIOUS abuse and most come out of it without issue.

If you're showing your patriotism and prefer not to purchase "Cheap Chinese ****", then buy American, MORE power to you! I'm all about supporting my country. However, before you knock others for it, take a quick look at everything in your home and I guarantee you'll find a "Made in China" sticker on something (including the computer you're sitting in front of or the phone you're looking at).

You may have missed this part:
"flimsy piece of junk Chinese fake"

I think we all know that there are plenty of high quality items made in China, including our computers.

But Magpul parts aren't.

Hey all,

I am looking to install the Magpul MOE rifle stock on my pinned M&P 15-22. Could someone provide links to what I'll need for the buffer tube and anything else I'll need to complete the install? I just want to make sure I get the right stuff.

Thanks!

Thanks For all your responses.. Didn't mean to start a Made In the Good old USA VS the rest of the world debate.. Im new to the 15-22 So I got a lot of learning ahead of me!

Again, any Mil-spec stock will fit. Buy Mil-spec stock of your liking, remove OEM stock, slide on new stock. The 'buffer tube' on the 15-22 isn't really a buffer tube, it's just an extension of the lower. There is no spring inside.

Any suggestions on a pinned or fixed stock? I need one here in CT. I could only find a Magpul MOE fixed stock in the mil-spec size but I was hope to get a stock with storage options

Every Piece of "Knockoff Chinese Junk" that I have on my 15-22 is solid and I am happy with it. I absolutely agree that some of the knockoffs are flimsy and total junk but the ones I have are solid and I am pleased with them.

Had I the money to dump into the real stuff I would but I don't so I do lots of research and but what is in my price range. Say what you will but I am pleased with what I have and that's what matters.

Buy what you like and what you can afford.

Buy whatever butt stock you want, adjust it to the length that works best for you and then pin it in place. There's nothing in Connecticut's laws specifying the length of pull.

I have a CTR on mine. Took one minute to drill and pin, and if I want to change it at a later date, 20 seconds with a 3/32nd punch and a hammer will remove the pin for readjustment.

Amazon and Midway both have the full range of MagPul butt stocks.

Thanks for the reply! I'll either pin it like you did or use a set screw to secure it at different lengths.

Just so you can't adjust the length "on the fly". Another absolutely stupid and useless rule by the loons who know nothing about firearms. :(

If you go the MagPul route, get the 0.70 extended butt pad. Don't need it for recoil reduction but it sure looks nice.

I've got my eye on the Magpul ACS carb stock. Are the Magpul butt stocks universal for all their stocks?

How much storage room are you talking about? Batteries? Boresnake? You could get a grip that has some room w/ a removable bottom plate, like the MOE, MOE+, or MIAD. I keep a bore snake in mine just in case I shoot A LOT in one session and need a quick sweep of the barrel.

Yeah, mainly want to keep batteries and a bore snake. I like the looks of the Magpul ACS a lot, I'm still looking at other options. Thanks for all the help guys!

I went ahead and ordered the Magpul ACS stock, I'm also waiting on my Hogue grip. I'll post some pictures in the gallery thread as I am new to the forum
