I kid you not...

Last night was date night so me and the missus decided to splurge and go to PetSmart to get dog food for Angus before we went to eat. I was amazed at the variety of food-some of which cost upwards of $50 a sack and contained only holistic ingredients. I was getting a bit peeved and suggested tongue in cheek that we just go to Walmart and go the "Uncle Roy" route loud enough for everyone around to hear. But the real kicker was at the end of the aisle. They had a selection of Beta's (siamese fighting fish for those of you who are old school) in their individual containers. I was looking at them and then looked down to the fish food and saw........................Beta Water.
Yes. that's right! Bottled water for fish. 31oz for $3.99. Ready to use, yada yada yada on the label. I looked closely for the ingredients and found none save for a notation that it was pure with no heavy metals and low mineral content. Sounded just line my city water (except for the heavy metal thing :D). I was beside myself. I asked the clerk if they actually sold this stuff and she hung her head and said yes. I chuckled and told her she ought to be ashamed of herself. She winked and said yea, but it helps pay my salary.
Capitalism at it's best.

Coulda been worse, how about a box of dehydrated water?

A couple guys were sitting in a bar. One pulled out a bottle of pills and was stareing at it. The other asked whatcha got there? Smart pills the guy said. The other said, naaaw, there cant be no such thing! Let me try one? Hey these pills cost me big money! You can have one for ten dollars. The guy sat there thinking it over and finaly said , oh okay I will try one. He shoved him a ten and the guy gave him a pill. The guy washed it down with a beer and said, hey this tast`s like s---! The other guy said, See! Your already getting smart!

The dog gets fresh food and water every morning and eats the food but doesn't drink. I take him out and he drinks from puddles instead. I must try a spoonful of dirt in his bowl, I'm sure he would ask for it if he could.
My dog will walk right by a fresh bowl of water on the way to the toilet to get a drink.

Every day I see numerous people drinking bottled water ,do they ever stop and think that there paying more for that than they are for fuel for there car? Drives me nuts.. There are no rules on bottling water you just get whatever they have wherever they bottle it. Than your drinking it out of a bottle made out of oil. And they think it's so good for them because it comes from a store and in a bottle. So why not for fish too? MJ

Beta water..........? Sounds like the "I love my grand dog" bumper stickers. Every time I see one I see red flags that say, emotion issues.

Isn't that nuts ....I raise and train labs and one out of 8 like clean water ,some of them even prefer the puddles with the oil in them!

I remember years ago when they did a blind tasting of that bottled **** people spend good money for. I was living in the Midwest at the time and guess what won? The testers had inserted a bottle of Lake Michigan water and it won hands down.

PetSmart and Lizard Sand

Petsmart sells "Lizard sand" which is finely ground walnut hulls, which will pass through the lizard's GI tract without causing an obstruction.

It is also great polishing media!!!!!!! The stuff is so fine it does not plug primer holes and is pretty cheap. Lasts a long time as well.

Avoid the bottled water and holistic food. Get the Lizard sand!!

See the deal is the more you spend on pet food and accessories, the better you feel about yourself. The pets could care less. I adopted two cats four years ago. I made sure I knew what food they were eating and have bought that ever since. They like a large, frequently cleaned litterbox and a bubbling water source. They clearly love the routines we do every day....keeps them happy.

Bottled water has to meet drinking water standards, there's a good chance the water out of your tap is better than the water you are buying.

Thanks for the heads up.

I went to WM today and looked for the water. You guys in La. must have some really big Bettas. We got the 16oz. bottles for 1.98 plus tax.

Fl. don't tax groceries. I assume because of the label it ain't considered food.

Shakes head and laughs,

Betta Water!!! :rolleyes::D:D:D

Caj,

I just looked at DogFoodAdvisor site, they rate, announce recalls, etc.

They rate up to 5 Star rating.

You should make sure ANGUS gets good stuff, a bunch of PUFFERY in dog food advertising ya know.

PUFFERY being a legal term, I just like how it sounds.:p

Also dogfoodanalysis.com.

Anything but Ol' Roy!

"The missus and I". If you're wanting folks to believe you're an intellectual and stuff for passing on the beta water, then it's proper to be usin "The missus and I". I finally learned that myself the third time through Shawshank Redemption.

A question though that I didn't see answered as I read through the thread. Did you price ditch water, you know, for comparison?

If I had a fish, he'd be swimming in beer. It's a lot cheaper, no heavy metals and I can drink it too. I might actually bond with my fish.
