I Quit Facebook

I will say that just as I was typing the post above I got an alert from FB that said my LGS has just posted about some 22 bulk packs that they just got in. I'm going to head down and pick a couple up as soon as I'm done with this post. Wouldn't have known about it otherwise.

Like most things in life, FB isn't all good or all bad. It's just some of both.

I may have posted something like this on a previous FB thread. So I'll just give it the short version this time.

To me FB is totally redundant. Anything I can do on FB I can do with email, participation in a couple of forums, cell phone and snail mail. There is no one that I want to have access to that I do not have access to and no one that I want to have access to me that does not have access to me. We can communicate and trade pics and everything and do it all as much as we want to and not have to fool with a bunch of nonsense like FB. I didn't go for My Space, I don't tweet, toot, poot or twerk.

I have no interest in the dorks I went to school, not even the ones that are still alive and out of prison. And unlike a lot of people these days I don't jump on every new fad and high tec gadget that comes along.

Their stance of 2A and gun control only adds to the stupidity in the world today and for that they get my hatred and resentment. Other than that the only thing I have to say about them is I just don't understand why so many of them try so HARD to convert people like me. Do they need the validation to justify their own addiction? I don't get it!

From SW Shooter: "Several years ago the Mrs talked me into setting up a FB account. I did it because I thought I would reach out to old HS friends etc. I soon found out that we had drifted apart for a reason, we had nothing in common any longer or we evidently weren't that good a friends to begin with.

I hate the advertising and invasion of my email account that FB creates so I limit my visits to it. I'm almost always disappointed when I do check it because no one has posted anything I am interested in. In fact I "unfriended" almost half of my "friends" because they either didn't ever post or posted **** I was tired of reading."

I rest my case.

It's easy.
Go to your Timeline page.
Click on the little "gear looking" thing at the top right corner.
Click Settings.
Click Security.
Click Deactivate your account.

I haven't ever used Facebook but I will wager that "Deactivate" is not the same thing as "Delete". My bet is that anything you ever put into Facebook is still there and recoverable, regardless of what your wishes are. You might be able to deactivate your account but you will never be able to delete it.

Splitting hairs? Not if you get involved in a legal matter and someone wants to dig up anything you ever posted.

Maybe, but that would be true even if you delete. Everything you ever wrote on FB or for that matter this or any other forum or website is indelibily inscribed and permanent in theirs or somebodies hard drive. Once written, nothing ever goes away on the internet. A lot of time we forget that when we are posting anywhere. :(

I took down my FB account log ago b/c I don't want a bunch of people I never heard of wanting to be my "Friend."

Facebook - A wonderful way to keep track of when 900 of your closest friends are having a cyst removed, what they're having for breakfast or how much they love Justin Bieber. All from the convenience of your smartphone while you're standing at the urinal, in line at the grocery check-out or lining up your sights at the pistol range.

Hey - Have the gun discussions over there resolved the question of "Is it ok to open carry"?

Nothing but a spy network...tracking and watching your every move.
Tom K is right, you cannot delete your account. Sorta like the old Eagles song "Hotel California" you can come in, but you can never leave.

As much as I don't use FB I should confess my wife and last urchin still in the house use it enough for everyone here. As far as staying in touch I get relevant tidbits from my wife and my medium of choice these days is Skype for talking and seeing kids, grandkids and friends. A good internet connection, Skype and a full HD web cam is pretty much up there with the flying cars we never got.

So you're saying that the Eagles foretold Facebook?????
Whoaa it's 4:23. I'm late for my doobie!!!

I enjoy fb. I post nothing, pictures or text, that I wouldn't want my Mama, Jesus, or my preacher to see or read. I have lots of fun with it, posting lots of nonsense, jokes, etc. I comment on some local political issues, and I follow and "share" some of the NRA posts and articles. I keep up with friendsI haven't seen in years. All the gun manufacturers have pages, and all the politicians have pages. I like to troll the liberal politicians' pages, and the "suggested posts" from people like Kay Hagan and Windy Davis. I have trolled their posts regularly, and if the comments on those posts are any indicator, they are both in trouble.

I post pictures of things I am cooking or have cooked, often along with the "protection" several here were posting lots of awhile back. People post pictures of their big deer, the turkeys they kill, and the fish they catch.

Just don't put any of your bidness you don't want generally known on it. Far as that goes, I ain't going to put that on here.;)

I had an account and several Forum members as friends so we wouldn't waste space here.

The wife got jealous cause I had a bunch of female friends there. And somebody ratted me out to her and she said she was embarassed.

It was all harmless but I closed my account to please her.

If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!:D

Yes, but I found children will tell you more and update you more about what is going on in their lives on FB that they never seem to want to tell you on the phone or Email. I get daily updates of what's going on in their lives. Plus they put up lots of pictures of my grand and great grandkids for me to see. Can't receive that on my old flip-phone or landline. :D
BTW, we have 9 kids that all live over a thousand miles from us. Never thought I would like FB, but I love it.:)
Would never consider Twitter and such, makes no sense.

Im going on 47, too old of a Puppy to change or update now. Ill bet in 20 years or less, folks will not even know how to pull a chain or flip a switch--to turn a light on.

PS, a question about facebook. Do you HAVE to register to look through stuff? If so? im never visiting.

No. You don't. But part of the Reason that people like Facebook is the privacy options. So if someone has it set so that only their friends can see their posts, then you won't be able to see anything unless you are a registered member and are that person's "friend".

On the flipside, most businesses, politicians, interest groups, clubs, etc have their Facebook pages set to be public. So you don't need an account to look at them.
