Who do you think the greatest living Actor is thesedays?

I judge performers on performance--talent, skill and versatility. I don't evaluate how an actor or musician does his job based on whether he or she is pro- or anti-gun.

If you don't agree with someone and decide not to support him financially by seeing his movies or buying his albums, that's certainly your prerogative. It's something I've done myself, a number of times. But that doesn't mean I can't admit that he's good at what he does.

Since we've apparently limited the scope of this thread to men, I'll have to nominate Pacino, DeNiro, Penn and Denzel Washington to the field. Hopkins, Spacey and McKellan are all terrific. Eastwood is even better as a director than as an actor, and that's saying something. Yes, Hanks belongs on the list. DeCaprio and Jamie Foxx will be up there soon.

But the best, most versatile actor in the business today, the one who simply becomes other people and is utterly convincing in any role, the one who can do any accent to perfection, is Meryl Streep.

Not limited to men--just that Eastwood is my choice. If you need the ladies and who are still alive, mine are: Olivia de Havilland and Maureen O'Hara.

I'll go with Eastwood. I like his western movies and have seen them many times and will watch them again. His presentation at the RNC meeting sealed it for me.

This thread can easily be printed and sent to his attention too. I have access to one or more of his addresses.:)

We are talking about acting and not political stances, right? It shouldn't matter who is pro what.

Penn
De Niro
Hopkins
Dicaprio
Depp (let's pretend the Lone Ranger was never made)

I think Eastwood is a better director than actor.

Reason I cant give a thumbs up--is Penn. Good actor yes--but also a classless jerk. Opinion only.

I have to say Helen Mirren. She can go from Shakespeare (member of the RSC) to movies like Caligula, Excalibur, White Nights and The Mosquito Coast to Broadway to playing Elizabeth (either one) to comedy (RED and RED2).

Actor

My first choice would be Kirk Douglas ,his autobiography "Son of the Ragman" is a great read. Plus he is a dead ringer for my late father.

After him in no particular order:

Gene Hackman
Robert Dinero
Al Pacino
Anthony Hopkins
Sean Connery
Jack Nicholson
Tommy Lee Jones
Morgan Freeman
Robert Duvall
James Earl Jones

I suspect many of us have rated actors that either "look" like we wish we did or those that play in roles that interest us, or rate them how they stand in the real world with their ideas on guns and politics. None of that should be what makes a great actor. Not if we are talking about their actual "acting" ability.
There are singers and actors that probley are great at their profession but I hate their politics. I wont watch a actor or movie that has filthy dialog.
I like westerns and other historical movies. Has anyone mentioned Kurt Russell yet? I always liked John Wayne like most here, but face it, he only played "John Wayne". Same for Eastwood. There are very few "young" actors that I like. Its a age thing I guess due to me kissing 73 years old.
The newer generations tastes are far different than mine. My wife watchs that "American Idol" tryouts or whatever. I now hate tues and wed nights. I swear if no one had ever heard of Johnny Cash, Elvis or Jerry Lee Lewis before and they got on stage to try out, that "Expert" panel would throw them off their first try!
Clark Gabel, Errol Flynn, Ward Bond and the type probley wouldnt make it with todays younger generation.

Seems like any male actor I could name has been listed.
Sooo, I'll add a few actresses.
Angelina Jolie
Cate Blanchett
Cameron Diaz
Kate Winslet
Penelope Cruz
Sandra Bullock
Jodie Foster
Helen Mirren - she's anti-gun but a fine actress
Claire Danes.
Plenty of others trip my trigger, but these are always worth watching perform.
