Went to the range yesterday as many of you know and I got nailed by another shooters ricochet. Thought I would post a pic. This is the most close up of it I have seen. You just can't get an up close image of something in a mirror. Hopefully it does not scar too much!

What did the shot bounce off? Where did it get you? Guess that's one reason why eye protection is a good idea.

Scary thing to have happen to you. I have been hit with ricochets a few times myself. Looks like you will heal up ok, besides hurting bet is scared the **** out of you.

Glad you're okay. I have a friend in Texas that was shooting steel plates at his local range and was hit with one of his own ricochets. It lodged under the skin and had to be cut out. To this day, he refuses to shoot at any kind of steel target.

I shot at a set of falling plates at 4 yards, when I was young and stupid, with my 9mm and the jacket came off one and stuck in my forehead. Dug it out and it had burned in more than penetrated. Needless to say, I stand back at least 10 yards now. It goes without saying "wear safety glasses".

Jacketed bullets and steel plates are not a good mix,The shrapnel goes farther than you would think.I usually stick to lead or sometimes plated but always wear eye protection.

Indoor range? I'd be looking for a new one.

Outdoors? How close was the nearest target anyone was shooting at?

I have multiple steel plates on my range that I made by hanging railroad tie plates (they work wonderfully with handguns). I've arranged them to hang at an angle, but there are still no guarantees. As a result, I've been hit with ricochets several times including three to brought blood. The furthest away I've been hit has been thirty yards. In my opinion glasses are as important as muffs.

I was hit with one on my shin as well, it was a 9mm at an indoor range. It came back from 25yrds and did not break the skin but I was glad I was wearing jeans.

I once got a deflected piece of jacket in the neck from a gravel bank.
Stung like crazy.
I also got a #4 buckshot pellet that came off a piece of reinforced fiberglass sewer pipe. Hit me in the thigh and bounced off. Also stung like crazy.

It got me on my left cheek. I felt this fleshy impact while I was reloading my mags. I was like, "what the blank, someone just shot me!" I think they hit the metal hanging target holder. The husband thinks the jacket from a 45 is what got me.

It was at the indoor range. The person who was shooting was on the left side of the range. I was on lane #10 which is against the right wall. I don't blame the range at all. It's not their fault the gun hit the hanging target holder just right. The target holders do have angled metal pieces on them to deflect ricochets. This was just a fluke that it deflected it across the range and hit me. After I put rubbing alcohol on it and bandaged it, I then went back on the line and finish shooting my M&P pro 5 inch. What can I say, I girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. The shooter was shooting at a paper target. The target holder was metal.

I think a little scar would just add character and make you look cuter than before. Glad your ok and I hope the experience doesn`t sour you on shooting. I shot myself with a piece of ricochet jacket from a .45 ACP. It hit me on my shin and hurt like H*** . Another time I got hit with a piece of lead from a .357 wadcutter right on the front of my neck. That hurt too.
Now I am a pain to my Son and Grandchildren about safety, and I insist on eye & ear protection at ALL times on the range shooting or not .
Our sport is dangerous and stuff happens and I expect something bad will happen again. I just hope it happens to me and not one of my Grands! I`ll keep on with the precautions and pray for continued good luck, because that is all thats between us and an incident.

Another shin hit here, too. It was two range visits ago. Indoors. I assume a very bad shot hit the target apparatus. Hurt like hell. The lead came to rest at my feet. I haven't handled a lot of bullets, but it seemed like a good hefty chunk. Amen to eye protection a blue jeans!

Me Too!

Got hit with a jacket fragment at 20 yards from the backstop of a police pistol range. Fragment penetrated my T-shirt at my shoulder and drew a bit of blood but no penetration.

As I'm an honest person, I didn't file for disability.

Damn that sucks.

I try and wear a hat, eye protection and ears AT ALL TIMES, but I guess it's possible for any of us to get hit at the range.

Hope it heals quickly.

:(

Note to self -- check my range bag tonight to make sure my first aid kid is there.
