It's five o'clock. Time for the evening news. Over to the liquor cabinet. Take down a highball glass. Two jiggers Jim Beam Bourbon whiskey. One jigger Martini & Rossi sweet vermouth. One extra dash of Angostura bitters.

Over to the refrigerator. Plop in ice cubes up to the brim. Find the bottle of Maraschino cherries. Spoon one of them in on top of the ice. Then put in a spoonful of that flavorful cherry juice.

Take that glass of joy over to the easy chair in front of the TV. Sit down. Relax. Turn on the news. Sip that MANHATTAN cocktail. Forget the travails of the day. Mmmmm. Ahhh....

My favorite cocktail. The JLM Manhattan.

That does look pretty tasty, I have to admit. Nice Pic!

My cocktail of late isn't worth a picture. It is a colorless, odorless, and (almost) tasteless liquid, except I have been finding it does taste pretty good: Russkiya Standart vodka, kept in the freezer, drunk neat and viscous, about 2 oz. at a time.

Meanwhile, my wife has discovered Bulleit rye and ginger ale, and has been steadily working her way through my bottle of sipping whisky. I haven't even had a taste of this one, and it will be gone before the weekend is over. To her credit, she couldn't stand Windsor Canadian, even disguised with soda pop.

Dewars with a small splash of soda. A recently acquired taste for me.

I just emptied the bottle and put in some soda. I like the larger glass because it saves trips to the source. I figured that I need the bottle in the image since many would not believe the name.

My gun show buddy and his wife went to visit some friends in France some years ago. She makes a WICKED magarita. The found the makings in France and she mixed up a batch. Desite warnings that it wasn't Coca Cola, the French loved it and drank vast quantities. There were a lot of walking wounded the next day, and a few who weren't even walking.

I wasn't aware there were still people who treated news like an appointment, where they have to show up in front of the TV at a pre-arranged time. ;)

Actually, I can watch it anytime after 5:00 PM - it goes to the DVR, and then I resurrect it so I can fast forward through the annoying commercials.

Have never understood why anyone would put water in good Bourbon??:D

Ahh, this is starting to become very clear to me now!

Original Post by myself. "Annoyed at thread drift".

Post #11 by S&W45Colt, "A forum with a lot of old guys, many of whom like Scotch and take a lot of meds.....and you expect focus?
Seriously, it's just the way it is on here. You just kind of have to expect it and roll with it. JMO".

Just thought I would chime in. I like to have a few cheap beers after work. MGD or Keystone Ice works for me. For a mixed drink I sure like a good Bloody Mary.

Well, I usually start at 4:30, and watch a couple of NRA, G&A, etc programs I recorded so I can fast forward through the commercials, before the news starts at 5. But I put a couple fingers of Single Malt over a couple ice cubes and cover with a little water. Lagavulin is my favorite (when I can afford it), but 18 yr old Glenlivet or about any from Islay might do.
