I have never been much of a hunter,but I have enjoyed target shooting since I was 15. Shotgun shooting was never a big thing for me,till I tried trap shooting just recently,I have been having a hard time staying away from the range since.I never knew how challenging and fun this game was.If you have not tried it,I would highly recommend it.This can be a fun family event,if done properly,you can go with a friend or two,or even by yourself.Go out to the range and give it a try,if you haven't yet,and you will see what I am talking about. It is a lots of fun!!
This was a great excuse for me to buy another gun for the purpose (OF COURSE) So I ended up getting a BT-99 with an adjustable cone,(What a beauty!!) about a month ago,and I have already cleaned it for 20 plus times,so that there tells you how hard this gun has been working since I got it.
Just thought I would share this story of mine with everyone,and hope you will have as much fun,if you decide to take it up,and be safe.

Had the same "awakening" myself a few years ago. Love it as recreation and also a valuable training tool.

Have a go at wobble trap if you want to throw yourself a curve ball.

Soon you'll be stuck on sporting clays, too... ;)
 
Sounds like you are enjoying yourself. It is "adjustable comb" not cone.

Glad you enjoy it. I shoot several times a week, all year. I bet you will find that quite a few of us on this forum shoot regularly.
Your BT is a perfect tool for the job.

As suggested, do try some Wobble trap if you have the chance. It is really a lot of fun.

Caught the Trap and Skeet bug myself 3 years ago. BT-99 is a great trap gun. You can pay more but it is as good as any of the others. I shoot mostly skeet because the range is only 12 miles from the house. 5-stand and sporting clays are great also. If you reload, shotgun powder is hard to find right now.
 
Trap is great fun. Skeet is even better! I love the BT99. I had one with the Browning Luggage case, made a very nice rig.
My skeet gun was a Remington 11/87. Cool gun but a bit heavy.
 
I've been shooting trap since I was a kid -- a long time ago :) with my old Model 12 Trap shotgun. I'm surprised after all these years it isn't worn out!

Yes, it is a fun sport.
 
Nothing better that shooting trap with my youngest. Of course his young eyes routinely kick my butt. A BT99 might just be his HS graduation present.
 
I can't hit beans with a nice shotgun because I am so used to service weapons. I made a lot of "friends" shooting trap with a Mossberg 590, complete with sling, VangComped, ghost ring sights, etc. LOUD, even with trap loads. I may well start again once I get the new one tested out and the sling set up. This one has an Aimpoint H-1 on it, too.

It can be about as addictive as eating popcorn, but as you might guess, my shotgun and working it like a cop, plus the bellowed "PULL" that overloaded the mike got me some looks.

many hour within many days spent reducing the little frisbies to dust.
We shot with riot guns, and three traps.
We didn't call for targets exactly. Rather than calling out "Pull" we'd call "Hurt me" or "INCOMING" .. at which point it was the job of the trap operators to block out the sun with clay so you had to shoot your way to daylight.
We've integrated many twists to the game as well, such as designating the rabbit target of sporting clays, a sidearm only target.
other twists to integrate rifles was an out of shotgun range rule, where the missed targets were fair game after they sunk below the berm. I LOVED that twist
 
Trap! I shoot it every single day the range is open (Wednesday thru Sunday during the summer, 7 days a week from November thru March).

I got so bored shooting handgun competition and rifles. The target was always in the same place even if I was in some game where I was moving.

With trap the target is headed out at 42mph or better and at different angles. Handicap is shot at longer yardage, and one works their way back to the 27 yard line where the target looks smaller than an aspirin.

Trap doubles are shot fast and are the most fun of all.

Do I sound addicted? My wife is just as addicted, she shoots every time she can (still holding down a full time job).

I progressed from Browning to Perazzi and now own an Alfermann which I seem to shoot pretty well. Still have one Perazzi combo as a back up, but it never comes out of the safe.

My wife has a pair of Beretta 682s and loves them.

I got excited just reading these posts, Pathfinder is all loaded up and ready for tomorrow's shooting.

Glad to hear you are having so much fun. I started with a BT99. 5 shotguns later I realized I had the right one the first time. All of the shotgun games are fun. I started on skeet and it has always been my fav. I've burned a few pounds of powder though shooting trap. I used to shoot for money every week but the years are starting to take their toll on my eyes and H/E coordination. As they say, I not the man I used to be.
 
Damn Yankee and BobC357,those look like beautiful guns. Damn Yankee,you must be very proud of your Son,he did a beautiful job on those stocks. I have been in the Auto body industry most of my life,and I do appreciate good workmanship,I know it takes a lots of time,patients,love for the work,and know how.Congratulate him for me on his fine work.
I will take some of the advise,and try some skeet,and five stand sometime.I have heard a lot about them this last month or so,and they sound like a hoot.A good friend of mine just picked up an old Ljutic Mono trap gun,that I am absolutely crazy for,and a couple of the shooters have Perazzi shotguns,which are also pieces of art in my opinion,besides being excellent trap guns.I had the pleasure of shooting one today with a release trigger,and I was stunned by its performance,accuracy,and of course the looks.
 
Yes, I will be going this weekend with my Remington 870 Marine Magnum with all 18 inches of barrel. Some day, I will have to get that over and under, but what matters is that I get out and have fun.
 
I like skeet and sporting clays better than trap but all 3 games are fun. For about 20 years I shot 25 to 30,000 shells a year. People that think the flying targets are easy to hit will be in for a rude awaking when they try it. Larry
