2014 Revolver Nationals

Thanks a lot for your help guys. Im going to have my dealer put in an order for a 627 sometime this week. Im start with shooting some .38 specials from it while I work my way into the .38 short colt ammo.

Again, thanks for your help and have fun shooting.

I looked up the Lee Die set on Midway and it says the seating die is capable of providing a taper crimp. I also saw on there that a 38 short colt crimp die is about $65. I assume I could do the same thing you did and use my 9mm hornady crimp die in my .38 hornady die body.

I have lots of Chrono data for 125 PF for my 9mm Glock 34 with a 5.3" barrel. Do you recommend me using that load data to start with my .38 Short colts? I think IM pretty convinced on the 627 now, its such a versatile gun. Whats your opinion on the Pro Series V.S. the PC? I do like 4" barrels, but I have alwasy wanted to own a PC gun.

I haven't done much experimenting with other loads in 38 Short Colt, but there's some detailed loads reported over at the Revo-nation forum .38 - Revo-Nation.com

As far as Pro Series v.s. PC, the PC did not seem worth the extra money for 1" of barrel length, which is the main difference. But some folks prefer a 5" barrel. Also, the holster I already have for my 4" 625 works for the Pro Series 627; I would have had to buy a new holster for a 5" gun. I did not care for the smooth, wide MIM trigger that came on the Pro Series gun, and replaced it with a forged, narrow, serrated trigger. I think the PC model has a forged hammer and trigger.

Finding 38 short colt brass is a problem at the moment. Don't see it changing anytime soon.

I run a 627 PC using 160 Bayou over 3.3 bullseye or Titegroup. 1.130 oal. Shooting it in the Ohio sectional next week-end. Originally was listed to shoot major.
