Does anyone own the M&P15 Sport?

That would be a fair price in a local gun shop. But there are lots of online shops with prices quite a bit lower.

Prices are getting down to the point I want to buy one just to resell in the next panic.

Geeze, I sound like a salesman for Nathan's Pawn and Jewlery, but...

That's what I did, and they beat their own price.

First, I used the genie and got a list of stores within 50 miles along with what each store would charge, including transfer, tax...everything. Nathan's was the best price that way.

Then I called Nathan's and asked what the best out the door price they could give me was. Nathan called back in 10 minutes and gave me a price dramatically better than using the Gallery of Guns genie...then told me I could probably do better by buying from Bud's and having it shipped to Nathan's and just paying his ($20.00) transfer fee, so I contacted Bud's.

It turns out Nathan's out the door price beat Bud's by $20.00.

Nathan's Pawn and Jewlery in Chatsworth, GA...THE place for all things guns in north Georgia. :D

Were they 5.56mm? There is nothing "large" about the ejection port on the Sport. It is the standard size.

Yes and I mean comparatively. The ejection ports on the ones at Wally World looked downright small. They were also made by brands I've never even heard of and can't remember at the moment.

I'm liking the Kentucky Gun Co. price MUCH better than anything else I've found online.

Those were NOT 5.56 they were .22 LR, some look so good they fooled me until I looked at the length of the ejection port.

AR15-22 s are better than a dedicated .22LR upper IMHO, cocking the hammer takes a bit more oomph than a LR cartridge can manage. I'm told a few manufacturers manage it, but I'm skeptical.

Agree. They are a local shop for me, and cheaper than the big box stores currently. Of course, their price changes with the market. I think their in store price may be cheaper, but haven't been over there in a while.

Not to derail this thread, but I am curious as to what you mean by AR15-22? Are you referring to the M&P 15-22, or just any .22lr in general made to look like an AR-15?

We have both, M&P 15-22 and a CMMG dedicated upper... both work extremely well. The conversion bolts cock the hammer back reliably as well. I have never experienced an issue with failure to cock the hammer back with any of them.

No...........they were not .22LR, they were .223. By "small", I mean narrow. The length was ok but, the width left something to be desired. Also, the metal around the ejection port was unnecessarily thick. In videos of the Sport, they show using your thumb or forefinger in the detent on the side of the bolt as a "forward assist". On the Wally World rifles I'm referring too, the ejection port looked barely wide enough to fit my pinky finger into.

Hamster, there is no difference in ejection port sizes between the different brands of rifles in 5.56. Everyone builds to the same standard dimensions today. The design of the rifle is modular... I can take my Sport upper, throw a BCM bolt in a DPMS carrier, put it in the Sport upper, and put the whole thing on a Colt lower. If ejection ports were different sizes, it would make it awfully difficult to buy the ejection port covers with the flags and other emblems on them.

Ok everybody..........just calm down. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about or MAYBE, I'm going off the memory of a rifle I was looking at through glass and never actually put my hands on.

The ejection port "looked" small to me.............and the more I think about it, the brand may have been DPMS. The only hands on experience I have of anything that shoots 5.56, is a military issue M16 and that was over 25 years ago.

In any case, I've decided on the M&P 15 Sport. It's more than adequate for my needs and if I can get one for under $600, that suits me just fine.
I may or may not eventually get something like this for it but even this is a relatively inexpensive upgrade.

^The Magpul carbine length handguard + Magpul rail section + Magpul AFG Gen2.

Go for it. Just make sure your off hand / support hand & wrist are comfy with the angle of the AFG.

Those hand guards do come in different sizes, so make sure you get the right one! :D

If you want just a basic, reliable AR-15 to shoot, you won't go wrong with the Sport. I think it is a good way to go, especially for under $600.

I've been reading and watching reviews on this one and I'm REALLY tempted to get one. Most say it's the best entry level AR for the money but, none of my LGS's have one so I'd have to order it blind without having handled one.

Any pro's or cons to this model?

As you can see there are many MP15 owners around here. :)

I'm a newbie to AR's. After much research, I bought an MP15 and have been completely satisfied.

Pros:
Inexpensive (bought mine for $604)
Ready to go right out of the box.
Modifiable (if you wish)
Accurate, makes a newbie like me look like I know what I'm doing! ha!
Relatively light (if toting it around is part of your use)
Eats up any ammo. Even the cheap steel cased Russian stuff.

Cons:
Makes your wallet thinner because it's so fun to shoot, you'll be buying ammo by the cases!!! :)

I'm sure I have over 500rds through mine since I bought it in Feb. Anytime I'm in Wally World I always pick up ammo and if I can get friends to go in, we buy a case or 2 online!

I paid $579 plus $5.99 shipping for mine from Grabagun three months ago. They now have it listed for $566 plus $5.99 shipping.

Just posted this thread about it the other day:

Great value rifle and it's pretty darn neat. My first AR and was pleased with the build quality & accuracy.

I bought mine from grabagun as well. I paid $599 a while back. I think so highly of mine I want to buy another considering how low the prices are.

I just bought mine on sale and due to work and weather have been unable to get to the range. Most annoying.
I did the research and am very pleased with the result a good light weight carbine. Now all I need is a 20 round Pmag for the bench. and a couple of quiet hours at the range.

Who notes the sale price was $599.99, good in NE FL 2014

We probably got ours at the same place. Just seemed like too good of a deal to pass up. I think that I may just leave mine stock. Although, I have been considering getting a "Daniels Defense" back up rear metal sight.

Bought mine last weekend during a big sale, I was actually there to buy 5.56 ammo. I think the store did a bait and switch with the ammo. 2000 green tips, for $449, was the best I've seen... and of course it didn't happen. They claimed the order didn't come in and course, no rain checks.

However, my wife did goad me into buying a Sport. I later discovered, she actually thought it would become hers (LMAO! Not a chance). I pick it up this Monday and already have pretty much all the upgrades I want/need.

Have Magpul MOE handguard and pistol grip. Elzetta A2 front sight tactical light mount w/ Streamlight Polytac, Vortex Strikefire... plus a couple other odds and ends.

Did a lot of homework, before I bought it. It wasn't an impulse buy, though it comes across that way... I had plans. The sale, extra money from no ammo... just sealed the deal. The Sport, repeatedly came out in top of my criteria... First and foremost, is K.I.S.S. Other things, such as; warranty, reputation, actual field reports. When I discovered, some LE departments are actually purchasing them, that was a big plus. I own an XD, which has a similar process to Melonite, that helped, since I love that gun.

No forward assist? Thank you, S&W! No dust cover? This isn't Kandahar. Besides, I don't run my guns dry.

I get more excited and firm in my belief, I bought the right gun, as the day approaches.

I own one, but It is not much of a Sport as of today. Speaking for myself you might find that out if and when you get one. As for a AR it is well worth the money, I could not be happier with mine. If you do decide to buy one welcome to the Sport family. :)

I've had my Sport for 2 yrs now. :) Bought it NIB from a GS listed on GB. It was CA compliant. Other than putting ammo through it, the only thing I've done to it was change out the bullet button, replaced the handguard with a Magpul, added 3 30 rnd magazines(it came with one 10 rnd), a sling and bought a soft case for it. The only other thing I'll be adding is a red dot and been looking at the Primary Arms. Not in a rush as all the Sport is for fun at the range. But even through the clamity of the past few months, I never gave it a thought to part with my Sport even though I had a lot of offers for it.
