1911

Best of luck, and be careful, 1911's are quite addictive!

Impressive collection of E Series and PC 1911's. Can you tell us more about the Doug Koenig guns and the high polish E series with fixed sights.

Ruger SR1911. Great price point, great reviews. My buddy just picked one up and it shoots and looks awesome. I would have picked on up if I hadn't just got a new shield. But in the near future I will be getting one.

I own the SR1911CMD (Ruger Commander) It's top notch. Great out of the box features, American Made and accurate!

Check out the STI Spartan. Made in the Phillipeans to STI specs and using STI internals. Under $700 and pretty close to competition ready. Can now be had in 3" and 4" versions, in .45 and 9mm. Performance comparable to guns costing much more.

I got my RIA 1911 GI in 38 Super in 2011 and is a edc now, I read somewhere in my reshearch that the machinery was original from the 40' or 50's Colt licensed. correct me if I'm wrong. I love this 1911 as it shot to point of aim outta of the box and no failures. No break in, eat's anything I feed it with out a problem.

The high polish E Series is a Deluxe Limited Edition of only 15 guns that Talo did for W.L. Baumler Co. who is one of their older distributors. Its only high polish on the flats, the rest is bead blast stainless, and the sides are naked - no markings, just high polish. Its really stunning up close...

The Doug Koenig in .38 Super is actually designated PC 1911-2 and is an impressive shooter. The .45 ACP model is not a PC gun, however I think its actually better looking and essentially as accurate and as well put together...

I liked the full size Ruger SR1911 so much, I then purchased a SR1911CMD, both guns, a real good bang for the working mans buck.

I really like my Colt Government .45. Lots of rounds and no malfunctions. I don't really trust semi's much at all but the Colt has been accurate and reliable 100% so far.
Peace,
Gordon

As already mentioned, Rock Island has a lot of choices, a great value product and unparalleled customer service.
A great way to dip your toe into the 1911 waters!
Did swap the stocks on mine, however:

Of course you are on the Smith Forum, but I'd vote for an S&W E-Series. After that consider the Remington R1 Enhanced, or a SIG. Shop gunbroker and other online sources and you'll find 'em for well under a grand.

Entry level 1911's would be ATI's, Rock Island, etc... You might be better off purchasing a good used model of an better brand.

Just got through reading a comparison of four 1911's.
Remington 1911 R1 ($729)
RIA 1911 A1 FSP ($529)
Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Mil Spec PT ($785)
Taurus 1911 ($684)
In this test, based on : ergonomics, trigger, recoil control, sights , grips, accuracy, and reliability. The Springfield Armory came out on top. It had the best trigger and was the most accurate with zero malfunctions. It's in the August/Sept. issue of Handguns magazine (it's a Guns and ammo publication)
If I were to buy one tomorrow I would be looking real hard at the Springfield Armory ( four and one-half stars) or the Remingington (four stars). The reviewer believed these two were better built and worth the extra money. Hope this helps.

I just bought the Springfield Mil Spec in Stainless. Paid $699 at Buckeye Outdoor in Hebron Ohio. About $750 after tax. I wanted a fixed sight version 1911 for SASS Wild Bunch or else I'd definitely have gone with one of the S&W's.
I've put about 250 rounds through it so far and I really like it. I think the trigger is about 5-6 lbs so its a little heavier than anything else I have but as I get used to it, It is responding as a great little shooter. I'll post some pics later.

My mistake... 1st 1911 was an Auto Ordnance, stainless advertised. (G.B.) Got it for $400. I learned a lot from it. They never made a stainless. Someone removed the blue and polished it. It did not feed or eject well at all. I changed springs, extractor, firing pin, etc. It was a good learning experience.
When all done, everything worked well. Sold it, and bought a SIG! Bob

I would go with the Ruger SR1911 or a S & W 1911, for one reason, to keep American money in America. Just my humble opinion.

Another vote for the SR1911. I got mine for $639 OTD from my LGS.

And one more vote for the SR1911. I have no clue how Ruger can make this price point as this is one well built 1911. As it stands up to now I have absolutely no complaints what so ever. It will be interesting to see what they will do next with there 1911s. Here's a picture of mine with my 4566.
