Post procedure update. Son is going to have 3 bypasses Monday.

Prayers being sent up for your son Sir.
When he is well again, "and he will be",
thank him for his service in the Marines
for me. My father was a 20 year Marine.
God Bless the Marine Corp.

Chuck

All the best to your son, his family and you. The odds are in his favor. You should be getting regular checkups too!

Heart disease runs in families. My Dad was a clean living, healthy farmer who looked great. Quad bypass at 72..lived to 88. I had my quad bypass at 63....9years ago. My oldest younger brother has had 3 small heart attacks and stents put in.

It's very fashionable to blame eating habits and exercise for heart problems...and even if those things aren't the real cause no harm has been done if you follow the advice.

I believe family genetics and STRESS have a lot more to do with heart disease than anything else.

Prayers going out!
He is a young man and should recover quickly.
I had a triple bypass August 26, 2013, a Monday, and was home by noon that Friday. Sure didn't feel good, but was so glad to get home. Recovery was relatively quick, and I was released to go trap shooting the first week in October. I think that was a quick recovery, and I'm 63, He has the edge with age, and with all of these prayers his recovery should be quick and complete. I will also pray for you, dad. God bless both of you.

Thanks for the great support. Tomorrow is the day. They do not believe there is any damage to the heart. He does not smoke.

I am fine physically. My ex-wife's family had heart issues on both sides. It is the burden my son and 2 daughters bear.

Some of you gave great examples of your experiences and all gave positive thoughts. Thanks again. DeathGrip double thanks to you.

My prayers that is way too young for that kind of surgery, my father had that at 76, I also hope that he does well in the future.

Docs have been doing those for decades. They've got it down pat. My dad had a quadruple bypass at 62, and it gave him 20 years. Best thoughts and wishes for a speedy recovery.

God bless and see you through this. I had the same situation a few years ago and came through just fine. i was awake through the whole thing and came away with three stents.

I feel your pain, have faith that he will fully recover. I had a heart attack 10 years ago and subsequently had surgery to bypass 5. I had two sons in the infantry in Iraq at the time. Now I know what my mother felt when I got my orders for Vietnam.

OP ~ Thinking about your son today and hope all went well. Let us know how he's doing.

Thanks to all who shared positive thoughts. My son came through the procedure with flying colors and hungry.

3 blocked arteries, 1 @ 100%, 1 @ 95% and one at 75%. The Dr said it was very serious, if he had not mentioned difficulty breathing during his physical last week he would not have lasted much longer. The total blockage had already started healing by making new paths with smaller arteries. They did a stent on the 75% one which is the one that supplied blood to the heart muscles and there was no damage to the heart. They put him on meds to remove the plaque on the 3rd artery. He sees the Doc in 6 weeks. He is on light duty for the next 5 days.

He wants out of the hospital so can go crappy fishing.

I told him you folks had sent prayers for him. He said thanks to you guys.

And I too say thanks.

I'm in bit of a funk. Two days ago my son called saying he just came back from the Drs office and testing. 3 bad blocked arteries at the heart valves. Surgery this coming Monday.

My only son is an outstanding father and person. He is a hard worker, he manages a large injection plant. He was in the Marines and did the original Desert Storm to free Kuwait. For those of you that remember it was on the tube 24/7 start to end. I had trouble sleeping and watched too much of it. I did see him on a newscast after it was over, he was asleep on the hood of a Hum Vee. From the time they went through the breach that was the first time I knew he made it. I slept that night.

My son is 45 and now I have to watch this. I know he will be ok.

This isn't for me, it is for my son. If any one has a word to say for him please do. He was a good Marine, he is a great father and son. Thanks, Aggie.

So it sounds to me that he didn't undergo open cardiac bypass surgery (that's what I thought you meant by your original title) but had a cardiac catherization done. If that's the case, he will indeed be fine. I just had a stent put in a couple of months ago for a 99% blocked artery and went on meds to reduce cholesterol and thin the blood. I'm glad he did well and happy he didn't go from the cath LAB to the O.R. which happens a lot. Best of luck to your son.
