Post procedure update. Son is going to have 3 bypasses Monday.

So it sounds to me that he didn't undergo open cardiac bypass surgery (that's what I thought you meant by your original title) but had a cardiac catherization done. If that's the case, he will indeed be fine. I just had a stent put in a couple of months ago for a 99% blocked artery and went on meds to reduce cholesterol and thin the blood. I'm glad he did well and happy he didn't go from the cath LAB to the O.R. which happens a lot. Best of luck to your son.

The Dr said 1 of 3 things will happen after they go inside the femoral artery and see what is going on. 1. Do nothing, Stents and or medicine. Condition depending 3 would have been bypass. We did not know until after the procedure what steps they took. His biological mother's family has multiple heart issues and early problems, that probably was more of a concern than the process they used.

Bottom line, all worked out fine for my son, a stent, medicine and one is healing it's self. And I totally agree that it was good that he did not go to the OR.

Glad you did well. Oh, did you have shortness of breath before the procedure and did it get better? Thanks.

Wow

Glad they found the problem before it became even more serious. I had an enlarged heart and cardiomyopathy and was in the hospital several days while the doctors looked at everything EXCEPT my heart. The doctor that told them to look at my heart saved my life. He said I had no idea how close I came.

A really good result and a good wake up call.He knew about the disease in the back of his head and now he KNOWS which means he will be a lot more self aware and will tend to pick up quickly when things don't seem right. Heart proceedures these days are nothing short of a miracle. I remember my grandfather having a heart attack in the 60's. They kept him in the hospital lying flat on his back for 6 weeks to "heal" (was in his mid sixties at the time). Looking back on it, I would imagine if that had happened today, he would probably have been home in a week and into Cardio rehab shortly thereafter. SImply amazing the advances!
