Hello, my 3rd Gen Smith lovers.
Many of you probably lament the lack of options for mounting an optic to your beloved pistol. The struggle is indeed real!
Heck, even finding factory or 3rd party front and rear sights is more and more difficult.
I've found and mounted an RMR Mount plate to the rear dove-tail rear sight mount, and it works perfectly.
How? You may ask...
Turns out the 5900 series with fixed (Novak) sights is identical to the S&W 1911, and the EGW Red Dot Sight Mount (Mod 49330/49530) works perfectly.
Red Dot Sight Mount for Smith and Wesson (S&W) 1911 with Fixed Rear Sights (fits Trijicon RMR / SRO, Holosun 407c / 507c)
In the description, it states (for you doubters):
This Mount Fits:
  • Smith & Wesson 1911s with Fixed Rear Sights
  • Smith & Wesson 5900 Series with Fixed Rear Sights
Mine is mounted on my 5926. I'm getting another one for one of my 5906. As my eyes become more finicky with age, the use of optics becomes increasingly viable for continuing to enjoy shooting.
It's essential to share these revelations and offer modern options for these incredible autos.

it actually even sits at a decent height, nice and low. I tried to co-witness a suppressor height front sight but the one i got didn't fit, and apparently forcing it didn't convince it otherwise! I'm going to get one of the fiber optic sights from Dawson instead
