If you were "emperor" at S&W -- and could order a new, updated 1006 and other caliber series tomorrow -- what features would the "new" 4th Gen 1006 pistols have that the 3rd Gens don't.

As for me, I'd like interchangeable, captured recoil springs in light, medium and heavy spring tension options, A NO MAGAZINE SAFETY OPTION, and a slide-mounted decocker lever that ONLY decocks, but doesn't disable the firing capacity of the pistol.

(I once had my safety engage while I was drawing the pistol. I read where an FBI agent got killed where the same thing happened to him...)

(And I'd MAYBE like a removable accessory rail...)

I'd also like better, more visible sights (especially on adjustable models) -- and maybe night sights outer rim with fiber optics as well as tritum in the center.

But adjustable sights would HAVE to get better!!!!!!

Well, that is one passionate view. However it would be plumb dumb to design a 10mm now and not make 'er hi-cap, so they would have to go with a doublestack magazine right off the rip.

I say make a variant that would be great for hunting -- 6-inch long slide and PC grade, two-way adjustable single action only trigger. The net result would be on the order of the Performance Center 4006 Limited, but higher cap and more horsepower.

Threaded barrels from the factory
Integral light rail and optic ready (or at least easily millable for optics)
TSW Frame rails and locking geometry
Grip panels instead of one piece wrap around grips.
All slides milled for use with decock only safety body if desired

Agree. That's been my working theory for a 4th Gen 10XX model, assuming S&W decided to offer only one model to represent each series of 3rd Gen guns (59XX, 40XX, etc.) with the best and final upgrades.

So basically the 10mm 4th Gen gun would be a M1066 with all the final upgrades that were done to L.E.-contract 4566s.
