How many guns do you carry?

Without sounding preachy or holier than thou, I trust my God as my back up. Actually, I wrestle with carrying or trusting Him daily. The world being as it is, and my responsibility to my wife and those around me, I do carry most everywhere I go. But I do think often of where I really place my trust, in my Lord or in my Smith. I think in the end, my Lord is all powerful and mighty to save, but my Smith is comforting. I just fervently hope I never actually need to use it. Thanks for looking, and God bless all.
God helps those who help themselves :)

When I was assigned to CID, I did not carry a second gun, always carried a second when on patrol. I recently qualified with a model 36 as a second gun and carry it in a pocket holster. For reasons I cannot articulate I have felt the need to be better prepared. Have started carrying a double mag carrier again for my duty sidearm, M&P 45 ACP, two speed loaders for the model 36. Most of my work remains at the station but I cannot shake the feeling to be more prepared.

I habitually carry two guns off duty as well as on. A model 60 rides in my left back pocket for a draw with my weak hand if needed. This is in addition to whatever else I am carrying as a primary. I also carry a pocket knife (always have) and a pelican 1910 flashlight. I don't notice the light at all because it is so small.

A Model 60 in your left back pocket???
I could never be comfortable with that thing back there.

I am a Christian. There was a time in my life when I believe that God lead me to give away every gun that I owned and I did. For 10 years I didn’t own any firearms except a .22 revolver that belonged to my wife and sat in a lock box in the garage buried under a pile of junk. (Sat there for 10 years and never rusted)

In 2007 someone put a bomb on my neighbor’s front porch and my wife and I really started rethinking our self defense options. I believe that I was again led by God to purchase a firearm and to get my concealed handgun permit as was my wife.

I believe that the primary reason that God wants me to carry a firearm is that it really makes me consider my behavior and my actions because I can’t afford to be aggressive or start any type of altercation while I’m armed. The consequences of misusing or even properly using a firearm are such that I have to humble myself and be the one to back down (if possible) every time.

As far as I'm concerned my safety is purely dependant on Him not some random gun I happen to be carrying

Having said all that what I would do in your shoes is put the gun down and pray about it until you get a clear answer either way. I would much rather be unarmed and in the will of God than armed to the teeth and out of it.

I am too active, as a camp host, to be able to safely carry a BUG. My plan is to utilize what I have until I can reach my REAL firepower ;)

I'm a Christian and understand where you are coming from. I think that we should fully trust Him in all things including our safety, that being said I assume that you wash your hands before you eat to stay healthy. Another example would be driving a car with a better safety rating, just because you do does not mean you trust God less, you could be, but it does not automatically mean that you are. It all depends on where your trust is, in man or in the LORD.

If I go to a "no gun" zone I trust Him to keep me just as safe as when I'm armed, but if it's legal to be armed I will be.

When He calls me home there will be nothing I can do to stop it from happening, but if you have tools available to protect you and your family by all means use them.

As Smoke said "As far as I'm concerned my safety is purely dependant on Him not some random gun I happen to be carrying.

I will be praying that God will show you which ever way He wants you to go.

Wow, I am not putting anyone down, but I have never felt the need to carry, let alone carry 2 or 3. As I age that may change, but once I became an adult, no one has ever bothered me and I have lived and worked in Miami, NYC and SE Michigan.

I felt a need to fix that to read "assuming I age", but didn't.. I hope you'll change your mind without a close call to motivate you. Or worse.

I'm old, can't breathe or run or fight, walk with a cane, and no doubt look from a distance like easy pickings. I carry one gun, the same one, every day, sometimes with reloads and often not.

I don't know how long ago you reached adulthood. You may be six feet fourteen inches tall and 300 pounds of rampant, totally confident, martial-arts-proficient muscle, but a bullet or well-placed knife can put you out of business just as it can this 76-year-old semi-cripple.

I prefer to take out insurance. I devoutly hope I never have to use it, but I carry my gun for the same reason I carry a pocketknife. Never know when I might need it, and wouldn't want to be without it if I did.

I prefer to respect anyone's religion, but when it comes to
defending my self I am with the congregation of Smith & Wesson. Back in those days Christians were told to sell their outer garments and buy a sword if they did not have one.
I think today it would read sell your outer garments and buy
a handgun. My view is killing is not murder, murder is the taking of innocent life. One king lost his kingdom because he would not kill, and there were muggers and robbers in those days too and all kinds of sects had to carry weapons or be victims.

So I have no problem when it comes defending our country
or ourselves, some choose to trust just in the good book and
some of us trust in Smith & Wesson. JMO.

I choose to carry two most of the time, but on occasion I venture out with just one gun.;)

You've never been in Wyoming in the winter have you? He could probably conceal an M1 Carbine easily and comfortably. :D
Mi law stated that a firearm less than 30" was a handgun- An AUG was 29.5. With a sling and worn across the chest, it was covered ( by down coat) and you could drive with seat belt on. There would always be the tip of flash hider poking out, and 42 rd mag would " print" sometimes. Why? Because I could, and wanted to try in case there ever was a reason that I might have to do it. Now usually only 2, Sigma 40F, and 638. Be Safe,

We aren't supposed to discuss religion here so I want to be really careful about how I say this.

Actually, I wrestle with carrying or trusting Him daily.

To me that's the key to Shooting Padre's post it's not the gun that's the issue so much as not being sure if He's leaning more on the gun than on God. IMO that's the question he needs to resolve and that's why I recommended that he resolved it before carrying the gun.

I only carry 1 gun but the gun depends on where Im going,
Where I live and commute to work there is relatively low crime so the Model 37 is fine...Woods of NC its a 2.5" Model 66-1 ,

When I used to drive into Miami the 14 shot 9mm Model 59 with a spare mag was it.

Lets just say I have no issues with either subject. When I
say I am with the congregation of Smith & Wesson when it
comes to self defense, it was just an observation. I elect to
defend myself, whatever the circumstances, have no issues
with his or any other individual's religion. It is not I agree
an appropriate subject in any gun forum. At the same time
I won't allow anyone to use religion to criticize any person
for choosing to be armed to defend themselves or to serve
their country in combat. I have said before I would never
carry a gun unless I was willing to use it.

To put it very simply I will not allow someone to take the
high ground and question my decision I made for me and my
family to carry a gun to defend myself, nor my decision I made
to serve my country years ago in the military service. As for
me and mine there is not a "smidgeon" of doubt in my mind
regarding my decision to carry a gun. I just will not cede the
high ground.

This is a story of a man, who was a firm believer of god.

One day it began to rain very heavily. It kept raining and a big flood came.
The man climbed up on the roof of his house, and knew that he would be ok. God would protect him.

It kept raining and now the water had reached his waist. A boat came by and a guy in the boat said: “Hey, jump in. We will take you with us”.
“No thanks”, said the man. “I’m a firm believer in God. He will rescue me”. He sent the boat away.

It kept on raining and now the water had reached his neck. Another boat came by and a guy in the boat said: “You look like you could need some help. Jump in and we will take you with us”.
“No”, said the man. “I’m a firm believer in God. He will rescue me. Don’t worry about me”. The boat sailed away.

It still rained and the water now reached his mouth. A helicopter came by and a guy in the helicopter threw down a rope and said: “Hi there my friend. Climb up. We will rescue you”.
“No”, said the man. “I’m a firm believer in God. He will rescue me. I know he will”. The helicopter flew away.

It kept on raining, and finally the man drowned.

When the man died, he went to heaven. When entering Heaven, he had an interview with God.
After giving a polite greeting and sitting down, the man asked: “Where were you. I waited and waited. I was sure you would rescue me, as I have been a firm believer all my life, and have only done good to others. So where were you when I needed you?”
God scratched his confused looking face and answered: “I don’t get it either. I sent you two boats and a helicopter”.

The moral of that story? God doesn't just provide protection via divine intervention. Sometimes it's simply through the gifts he has given you, such as your ability to shoot and the prosperity to own a firearm.

There's been plenty of folks with a similar philosophy that were apparently more important in heaven.

I'll keep my fate in my hands as much as humanly possible.

I carry because I can and I don't mind.

Shorts carry.

Sure it's hot here but an extra gun don't make it any warmer.

We are both retired, usually it is one for me and one for my wife.

Only carry issued Glock 23 on duty per agency policy. Off duty, 442 is carried as backup to any one of five belt guns I set aside for off duty. If I am dressed, I am armed. On an out of state road trip last weekend, I carried my Glock 22 with two mags and the 442 with two speed strips.

I mostly carry a 642, and can't remember the last time I carried a 2nd gun.
Living in the lowest crime county in my state has it's merits. If it weren't for the taxes and winter I'd never leave.

LCP or 642. Not at the same time. Mostly LCP.

I don't have a high risk job nor engage in high risk activities. Walking my dog is about as risky as gets. For me, carrying two or more guns and a bunch reloads all the time is something I'd consider hobby carry.
