If there is something on ebay I need, I will buy it. Never had any problems and have used PayPal many times. Besides, PayPal is a wholly owned subsidiary of ebay so you are dealing with the same company.

Is it just me or does it seem like the frequency of grips for sell on this forum is decreasing while the numbers on Ebay are going up? Does anyone here think that more of our forum members are selling their grips on Ebay rather than here on the forum classifieds? Or are just more folks with S&W grips laying around starting to discover they may be worth $$$? I would love to know what you all think.

...with EB and I'm selling less and the buyers are complaining more. They've learned that if a buyer files a complaint with EB, EB automatically sides with the buyer without ever doing an investigation. I recently sold three antique plates which the buyer said were all broken. He complained to EB, didn't provide proof and I had to refund. The buyer gets a full refund and the seller gets dinged by EB and your future funds get held up. Almost always, the seller never knows why the complaint was made or supported by EB. I wish there was an alternative to EB, but so far there isn't one for the stuff I sell. I'll stay until that happens. I try to use this site and Gunbroker for such gun items, but too often find a buyer on EB due to the wider buyer field. On prices...I've never gouged, just listed a price that gave me fair market value or covered costs. I don't like EB rules such as not being allowed to sell empty ammo brass, yet I can list a gun barrel. Go figure!

I only buy on ebay and don't sell. I love ebay. I can find great prices and most sellers offer free shipping or factor it into the price. I can find just about anything I need on ebay that I don't need right away. I love it.

I have a special checking account (free from my bank because I'm a "senior citizen") I use strictly for eBay. If I buy something I transfer just enough money into it to cover the costs. If I sell something I pull the money out of it as soon as it arrives. (On-line banking makes this easy from my recliner.)
Flea-Bay is welcome to feed on the 2 or 3 dollars that is normally in the account.

I've bought and sold a lot of gun related items on ebay. Mostly grips and sights. One bad experience with a buyer who claimed the grips wouldn't fit. I figured he just had buyers remorse because they were factory grips that came off a CZ 75 so it's hard to figure they wouldn't fit, but I gave him his money back. (Paypal refunded their fees)
On the other hand I've bought several items that were misrepresented and they were easy to return. On a couple of occasions I got the refund before the item was returned.
Yes, the fees are high but you know that going in. I've never had a problem that was was not resolved to my satisfaction.

Hmmm... any funds that come into my PayPal get transferred out to a bank account same day.

I've been on eBay as both a seller and buyer since the beginning. I very rarely sell anything on eBay anymore, too much of a gamble.
(1) As noted at beginning the rules are always changing and not in your favor
(2) No matter how crooked the buyer, if he files a complaint he wins, and your Paypal account is frozen until you've returned the money. I had one guy wait 2 weeks to pay, then complain the camera sold for parts was broken, filed a complaint, but never returned the parts. Ebay froze my paypal account for two months because I wouldn't return the money until he shipped the camera back.
(3) The last item I sold they charged me the same fees on the shipping charges. The shipping and insurance overseas was about $60 so they charged me another $6 on the shipping. Since shipping did not go through them how can they charge for a service they aren't providing.
(4) Have you noticed that most sellers are no longer individuals but eBay businesses charging an arm and a leg. For example go look at price they want for Lyman molds, you can buy it cheaper at Cabelas or Midway than on eBay.
(5) Having something to sell? Armslist, Craigslist, Gunbroker, there are lot more players out there than ebay.
Finally, all these "rules" to protect the buyers because they are so many rip off artists, in over 20 years I only got screwed once when buying something. And that pretty much goes for all mail order business I've done for 40 years (I buy and sell high end cameras,Leica, Rolleiflex,etc). I can't tell you how many times I've been screwed by buyers, and I mean robbed, ripped off, etc.

I love ebay. I have been using ebay for 15 years and have over 850 positive feedbacks as a buyer. I have only sold a couple of items so I can't speak to that experience. I also use Paypal. I buy an item and as soon as I win, I pay via Paypal. I find it very convenient as going to the local PO is a pain. There is usually a long line and I am just not willing to wait for 45 minutes to get a USPS MO.
I will admit that there aren't as many unique S&W items for sale anymore but thats OK because I already have one of everyrthing.

I'm fed up with Ebay, so much so, I just closed my account, and will close my PayPal account as soon as they let me... And THAT is part of the problem, they have to LET me close my own account! Screw them, I am under no illusion that my leaving them will hurt them in the least, but sooner or later they will pi$$ enough people off to where another auction site will come into play, and catch fire enough to burn the house of EBay down, hopefully with all of the crooks and liberal pony boners trapped inside with it...
I didn't know that about ebay. I had gotten into the habit of waiting until I actually used the item (which occasionally would be more than a week after I received it) before I'd leave any feedback on it. I guess I'll have to change my ways and start being more prompt so the sellers can get their money.
im the same i always left feedback after i recived the item to make sure it got to me and to make sure the seller said it what it is soppsed to be that seems fair to me i did not know they hold sellers up like that

We use eBay to buy hard to find toys for the kids (try to find a Lego Lord of the Rings "Witch King" at Toys R Us), and that is about it. I never took to paypal, but the wife likes so she does all the eBay.
Don't care for ebay and do not do paypal. I do without first.
Hard to do at times when something is found and pp is the only option.

I do well buying on ebay, but try to avoid selling there for that same reason. They are just doing it to protect the buyer and making sure he got what he bought and in the condition described. Kind of fair, but seller must be patient, and hope buyer doesn't file a complaint against you saying it is not in condition described.
I had a holster I was about to place on ebay, then thought about it, and instead listed it on 3 local gun sites. I sold it in one day, ftf, didn't have to bother with shipping, waiting for payment, or paying ebay their high final item fee.
I avoid selling on ebay whenever I think I can sell an item elsewhere.

I used to use ebay quite a bit, mostly for buying. Don't use them anymore because of the scammers and juvenile messaging. I sold an item that the buyer claimed was damaged. Maybe it was, but if it was it was done by the post office. I told him to file a claim as it was insured. Never heard back and he left me bad feedback. Paypal held me up for 3 weeks because of it and I did everything right, shipped it 2 day priority and even insured on my own dime. It's not for me. I'm finding that auction sites are becoming a very big waste of time.

Same thing here, a separate account just for PayPal related transactions. Will slide money into or out of it as needed but there is seldom more than just a few bucks there.
