Sad experience today

Second, call yourself anything you want but if you have thousands of roounds of something you are hoarding.

You can call me a hoarder if you want to. It doesn't bother me.
I have been hoarding ammo, guns, and components since 1992.
That was the year Clinton was elected, if you remember.

For some reason, I guess a little birdie must have told me, I started
buying up .22lr in late 2007 and early 2008. It was still relatively cheap,
and there was plenty of it. I believe I paid from $12.50 to $13.50 per
bulk pack, mostly Federal and Remington. I probably bought 10K rounds
during that six months or so, and I already probably had 10K to15K on hand.
It has made it possible for me to give away probably 5K of .22lr and several
hundred .22 magnum in the last 5-6 years. None of mine is for sale.

FYI, I also hoard food. My wife and I have filled up two freezers with various
garden vegetables this summer. I still have vegetables producing, but I
just don't have anywhere to put anymore. I will probably call the women's
rehab facility we support monetarily, and see if they want to send some
people out to pick the next bunch of peas that gets ready. We gave them
about 25 bushels of sweet corn a year or two back.

I also hoard gasoline and diesel fuel. I have a couple of generators to keep
the freezers charged in case of a prolonged outage. With 25 gallons of diesel fuel and $200
worth of fertilizer (which I also hoard) I can produce food for
the three or four families that depend on my garden for at least two years.
I forgot to mention that my brother, his daughter, and his son have all filled their freezers.
They are hoarders, too.;)

So, you can call me a hoarder, and it doesn't bother me at all. I imagine,
if the S were to actually HTF, a lot of those who sneer at us and think hoarding
is a bad word will be glad to accept some help.

As far as the "flippers" and "gougers" go, I am always amazed at the
anti-capitalist sentiment seen on a shooting forum, of all places. :roll eyes:

At 1k, your a novice hand loader.
There are only three states to ammo.
there's out of ammo.
There's some ammo.
there's more ammo.
But there is no such thing as enough, or too much ammo.
Though, in case of fire, too much might be rumored to exist.

I'm not going to allow any bitter frustrated individual, caught with their pants around their ankles alter how I define myself.
The way I run shop is and shall remain largely the same way it was back in the 80s. It worked then, and still works now. I am not about to break the system now.

I love these discussions! These are the people who are socialists when they want buy and capitalists when they want to sell! They think that, somehow guns and ammo different than other commodities in that, in their minds, they shouldn't follow the laws of supply and demand and that it's "immoral" if they do.

Those stores, they flip products! They buy products (wholesale) and sell them at a higher (retail) price! They even do that with AMMO! Guns, too. Oh, no!!!

As for the "gougers," who ever they are, if the price is too high, don't buy from them - find someone cheaper. It's not like there aren't other choices and no one is being forced to hand over the cash.

BTW for those of you who are whining about not finding ammo because of the "hoarders," get up off your rump and make an effort to find out when the shipment is, when they stock, and you might beat them at their own game. And when you get the opportunity to buy will you just buy one box - you know to save it for others - or are you going to in quantity so you have some and don't have get up so early?

From the posts it's become self evident who are the "ants" and the "grasshoppers".

Guilty as charged.

At The Risk Of Being Too Political

Mods, if this post is out of line feel free to delete it

I'm glad people are hoarding.

I'm glad Americans bought every AR pattern rifle manufactured over the last couple years.

I'm Glad Americans have purchased more than 10 BILLION Rounds of ammunition since 2008.

I think this buying frenzy has given some of our public servants pause for thought and lead them to the realization that the Citizenry can only be pushed so far.

And I think that's exactly how the Second Amendment is supposed to work

For the most part, my ammunition is stored in those familiar green ammo cans. Without revealing the actual quantity, I have roughly the same number of cans for each of my important 8 or 9 calibers. I'm not sure if this makes me a hoarder or not . . .

Certainly not good for father and son.

But ya know... There was a similar story posted here complaining about not being able to find ammo for the kids to shoot for over a year! Forum members quickly posted links to .22lr that was in stock and some of it wasn't greatly over priced at 5-6 cents. Turned out he didn't need it after all. There is plenty of rimfire to be purchased by those who try just a little. Great resource-- http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-m-p-15-22/292430-official-stock-22lr-ammo-thread-203.html.

For those who don't wish to do more than walk into store and buy what they want when the want, they are likely to be disappointed. It will return. Until then, those who wish to buy .22lr will need to work at it a bit online. If that is too great of a burden... then that's that.

We are talking about the old days, I'm afraid, when a father and son could walk into a hardware store and buy a box or two of 22's, like my dad and I did. Shame that we have to go online or search local Walmarts before they're grabbed up. There is still a shortage here in WV. I don't know if it will ever return to the old ways, but, rest assured, we will pay for it.

if you own a firearm (a shooter), you should own ammunition.

I hope no one got their britches in a bunch because of my post. I don't care how much ammo, guns, food, gas, broccoli, or anything else you have. Go for it! Buy til you fill your space. Makes no nevermind to me.

I was just pointing out that people who deny they are hoarding are just in denial. I don't care what you call yourself or anyone other than me. I have been hoarding other calibers of ammo, guns, smokeless powder, primers, brass, projectiles, yada yada yada.

Just love yer fellow gun lovers.

... Shame that we have to go online ...

Why is that a shame? Internet purchasing is nothing more than 21st century catalog shopping. And thanks to the fine folks who frequent this forum, the "in stock 22lr" ammo thread makes it a lead pipe cinch that you can have plenty of affordable ammo delivered to your door in a matter of days.

It's easier than voting - oh wait, there are people complaining about how they feel "disenfranchised", too.

That's the point I intended to make. Today it is more difficult for kids and new shooters to start out as they have for the last 100 years. I guess I'm just a traditionalist. I've started several new shooters out on 22, two this summer.

My opinion is that especially today we need all the shooters we can muster and we should encourage new shooters.
