I think this was the finest revolver made by S&W and my favorite for sure. I carried this on duty and sold it, *** to cheap long ago. But for whatever reason the short barrel was dropped and it remains my favorite of all. Comments?

Actually I did not know where to put this but this is when I owned this from about 1952. just so you all know...

I'll second that! Rather have one of these than a Python any day. It's on my bucket list; the longer I wait, the higher they get. Keep hoping I'll find at least a decent deal on one one day.

It's also on my list…..and I agree with you on the prices.

Semper Fi!

Guy's if you really want an M-27 3 1/2" get one now, they keep going up in price. By waiting three (3) years it cost me and extra $600.00 to finally get my 3 1/2".

I have never seen one of these "in the wild."
If I had it would have been domesticated in short order, if there was any way to achieve that.

The closest I've come to any M27 is my M28. It's a former duty gun from Pueblo, CO. I bought it while they were still cheap.

You would be in the majority opinion. The 3.5" 27 and variants are very popular.

The 3.5" pre-27 I saw at the show on Saturday wearing diamond targets at $850 was probably a pretty good deal (I would immediately separate those stocks in favor of Magnas as the targets are much too big to look good with the short barrel and and don't bother arguing with me I'm right about this). But I already have two 3.5" pre-27s and another 27-2 so I wasn't interested.

BTW- I have just under a grand invested in all three. Paid $350 for the blue 27-2, $275 for the blue pre-27, and $350 for the nickel pre-27.

Looking at what they go for and as big as CCW mania is these days I do not know why they don't bring back the 3.5" model and maybe even offer it in the eight shot version as well. They did the 4" model a few years back in the eight shot version but I guess they didn't sell that well. I bet the 3.5" would sell better.

Well, they brought the Night Guard 8-shot snubby out and it was not a success, blame cheap high cap semi-autos. To be fair, it is not finished anywhere like the old 27s.

The cost to make one of blued steel, hand fitted and finished similar to the old ones would be cost prohibitive.

There's currently a 4" 27 offered, but it's more a 28 than 27 as far as the topstrap and finish are concerned.

Product: Model 27

The 3.5 certainly has the best lines and proportions, especially in the pre models with the dehorned muzzle and rounded lug.

I've wondered why the 3.5 barrel was so exclusive to the M27. When they were making the 21-4 and 22-4, I thought the 3.5 would have been ideal on them. I would have liked for the LH N-frames to have that extra half inch, and full ejector rod.

I agree, the 3 1/2" N Frame is one of the best balanced revolvers I own, unfortunately, the values have gone us so much I do not shoot it very often, and now find myself at the range with a (ugh) plastic framed wonder nine. But the Shield does grow on you also.http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s133/HRW4936/IMG_1862.jpg
Not using it is a disservice.

Using it and maintaining it properly isn't hurting anything unless it's NIB.

N frames are the most enduring revolvers out there.

Don't make excuses for enjoying your tupperwear :D
